    Waiting on hunting partners....

Thank all of you for the responses. Every little detail/bit of advice is useful to me right now, because I know there is always something that is never thought of by newbies like myself.

    Waiting on hunting partners....

It's not about having the money for a guided hunt. It's more about justifying spending that money on a hunt. I know there are tons of pros that comes from using a guide. I just have a hard time justifying spending that much money on a hunt. I will continue to plan and weed through hunting...

    Waiting on hunting partners....

My biggest issue currently is that most of my hunting partners in Louisiana do not have the same enthusiasm as I do for a moose hunt. Except for 3-4 guys I have a hard time getting people to commit to Colorado elk hunts. I am still hoping at least one of my elk hunting partners finally agrees...

    Waiting on hunting partners....

Thanks, for all of the input. First off, I live in Louisiana and currently have a core group of 3-4 guys that hunt elk together. They want to go, but are at stages in their lives that they aren't able to commit that for out. I will keep my hopes up that at least one of them will agree. Being...

    Waiting on hunting partners....

I am wanting to go to Alaska on a moose hunt for my 40th(2025). I am learning of all the different options for that hunt and have already ruled out a guided hunt due to the pricing. I am really liking the idea of a drop camp or hunt planner, but the good ones are booked a couple years out...

    How big was he?

He is at least a 6x6, some of us thought we may have seen a 7th on one side. The thing that stuck out the most to me were his thirds and his whales were pretty long. But like I said it was all our first ever elk hunt and none of had idea of his size, besides really nice. We did try to make a...

    How big was he?

I got to enjoy my first ever elk hunt this past September. On our third to last day we ran across a very nice bull that was about 800 yards off of public land according to onX. We were able to snap a couple pictures and I was just wondering just how big a bull he actual was. The pictures aren’t...

Successful first hunt, without filling a tag!

I just returned from my first ever elk hunt, and feel my hunting partners and I had a pretty good trip even though none of us filled our tag. None of the guys in our group(4 but only 3 hunting) have ever hunted elk or out west before. We are all from Louisiana and dove into this trip head first...

Anyone know West Elk Wilderness in GMU 54 Colorado?

Was it other hunters or hikers? I just applied for this archery season.

Should we bring a trailer and atv/utv?

That is pretty cool, but I am not looking to buy. Between the guys in our group we have utility trailers, cargo trailers, atvs and utvs. I'm leaning on bringing 2 atvs versus 1 utv.

Should we bring a trailer and atv/utv?

Thanks for all the responses. That makes the decision very easy. So the next question is, UTV or ATV? I would think the UTV would be more comfortable, but the ATV easier to maneuver and easier to haul around.

Should we bring a trailer and atv/utv?

A couple friends and myself are planning our first elk hunt in southwestern Colorado. We have a couple areas picked out already and few of them do have atv trails. My question is, is it worth hauling a trailer from south Louisiana? My plan has always been to load up the truck and head out, and...

    Camcorder or DSLR

I am going on a DIY elk hunt next year and am trying to decide what camera to bring with me. I have a cannon handheld camcorder and a cannon rebel t5(DSLR). I only want to bring one. Which would you choose? I will also have a go pro on my head.

    Bivy Campsite

Thanks for the responses guys. I guess really I will be doing more of a base camp than true bivy hunting. I am willing to do true bivy hunting, but it really depends on how the spots I am picking turn out, and if we can get on elk. I just know there will be huge learning curve for me, and I am...
