There is a processor in Chama, just as you come into town from Santa Fe. We tried to use him one year but was full. Lots of hunters from the Chama ranches dropping their elk there. Thats all I can contribute. No idea of rates. We just kept ice on ours and all was good.
I forgot to add that you should try to determine the prevailing wind direction and get the stove on the lee side so sparks are taken away from the tent. You usually use the stove in the am or at dark so the wind should stay steady.
Cabela's sells a roof protector that attaches. I use it on mine with a spark arrestor. Attaching the vestibule is a real problem. I get mine on every year but it is never sealed up correctly at the bottom. I will figure it out some day. You are right, the directions are poor.
I have a 12x12 Alaknak and you would be hard pressed to fit 3 people if you have a stove. I usually can only fit 2 people with large cots. If using lower cots them three will do. My hunting partner got a 8 man seekoutside tepee. With a liner and stove you can fit 3. With small cots maybe 4. but...
There is a 30% off sale on mountain house at their website, Mountain House.com
Coupon code is Banff. Shipping seems high but the savings is real. I just ordered what I needed for this year's hunt.
I inflate my Exped with enough air to keep my hip bone from touching the ground. I cannot sleep on a firm mattress. I also use the pillow between my legs. This got rid of my back pain every morning.
I have a 12x12 alaknak and use a 3 dog stove. Stove's by 4 dog all have a baffle so it limits the sparks that damage your tent. My 3 dog will cook you out of the tent.
I have a marmot hydrogen 15 degree down bag and have had it at 18 degrees with no problems. Weight very little and compresses very small.
The main reason I post is to suggest a 6 or 8 man tipi. Weight difference isnt that great and the room is wonderful.
I ate one of their meals this year and it was the worst I have ever eaten. It did not rehydrate, especially the meat and flavor was not good. I did not eat the other 2 meals and went back to MH.
I agree with the 9.3xt62 suggestion. Large bullet at moderate speeds without the magnum recoil. My CZ 550 FS has a 20" and is very quick to point. Not really necessary unless you have Grizzlies or other large dangerous game but its good insurance if they are around.
Thanks for the responses guys. I realize these three units have lots of people but every general unit I have researched has the same issues. We have hunted Colorado for 3 years and surely any unit in Wyoming must have fewer hunter. Even archery in Colorado is a mob scene.
