@Formidilosus I have an older tikka 22-250 with what I assume is the slower twist rate (1:14?). I bought some 77 tmks for it. Should I expect them to tumble/not work at all?
We usually have a wounded buck run onto our property in Texas and die each year. Sometimes find them still alive. Sometimes with rotting wounds. Most of them we find like that seem to be shot in the neck.
I hunt near DFW too and our turkeys get fired up when we duck hunt nearby. Makes for some fun hunts. They gobble at the calls, at the shot, and when you blow the dog whistle. That said, I haven't found locators work nearly as well here as they do in the east during the spring for whatever...
I carry a g20 in my razco on an FHF and like it because I can get it cinched up high enough to be comfortable. Tried it on an AGC and it sagged so much i couldn't stand it. Mine has a light on it and weighs a little more for what it's worth.
What have you done to fix it so far? Scope, scope mounts, action screws? I haven't had to upgrade anything on mine, so can't tell you what aftermarket add-ons would help, they just seem to shoot to my expectations (not PRS) from the box.
I'm 6'7" and I use the MSR Hubba Hubba NX. I don't have much extra length, but it's enough. Not the lightest, strongest, or cheapest, but does check a lot of boxes.
I went through 3 pairs from 2010 to 2018. They were ok for deer and bird hunting, but wore out surprisingly quickly and were never warm (always dry though). As soon as I went into the mountains I started sliding around like crazy and they tore my feet up. My brother has worn them for the same...
I shot a small texas whitetail with a suppressed .300 blackout subsonic 220 gr bullet this year from 30 yards. Had to chase her down and shoot her a bunch more times. Hated it. I hope the pellets are better designed than the slow bullets.
I've been shooting one with the BDC reticle on my .270 now for the last couple years and like it a lot. The reticle is pretty thick but that's helped me for quick shots and low light situations. Banged it around in the truck, planes, and through heavy brush and haven't had any issues with losing...
