I know it's not a sheep but I drew NM IBEX!

I've seen some great results with the outfitter you mentioned. Not to throw shade on them or any other, but, this is not the kind of hunt you would need to shell out money for an outfitter. Should you kill one in a location that is hard to retrieve then I would have some contacts ahead of time...

Bow sight Pin size for elk hunting

You are overthinking it. Elk can be fast and furious and develop quickly. Especially in low light conditions. I like bigger pins for that reason. Most important part is getting a range and using the right one. Last three I shot, I didn't have time to even range them but I've spent years...

Co. Unit 74 Sept. Bull Archery

I hunt 74 because its close and I know the country. If I could start over, I would pick one that has less traffic and people. Even several miles in you hear the Jake Brakes and see way too many people. There is game, but in CO there is game in most places. Its best to just hit the same...

    Limbsaver on Tikka T3x

With the limbsaver and and a muzzle-brake my wife comfortably shoots the 7Mag.

Tikka 7 rem mag ammo recommendations .

I'm shooting 160 Nosler accubonds out of reloads. Haven't had it fine tuned enough to brag on numbers but it has 3 one shot kills on an Oryx, barbary sheep and a coyote. none of which really went anywhere. I have a few ELD-x's ready to go but haven't had time to try them.

    New Mexico draw???

This year should be great in NM and your smart for getting into the game here. There are large elk in almost every unit in the primary elk units (used to be the COER). Due to bull to cow ratio's and limited tags its alot better hunt than CO OTC for similar price, some units are even cheaper...

    Border Wall and Wildlife

How many species are actually migrating in homogeneous desert habitat? Not many, and the ones that do, can fly. Wolves have plenty of habitat on both AZ and NM side as well as MX. Jaguars best habitat is way south of the border. Any occurrences in US are not breeding populations (stragglers...

CO DIY Mule Deer Unit Recommendations

Fishing loophole for PP is gone. I don't believe they have a combo NR. Small game was included before with big game license now its a moneymaker to apply. Don't have to purchase PP's however for elk, deer or antelope. The other big species went up to $100 and took me out of the game. As far...

Could use some help fighting for Trapping rights in NM

Here's my advice if you're going. Get there early and wait by the room door. The ushers will only let so many in, and what happens is the antis will cut in front of you and rudely walk around you. If someone leaves another can go in. Depending on the size of the room there could be a hundred...

    carrying arrows

How do you guys carry your arrows when doing spot stalk/ground hunting. Im going to be on a run and gun elk hunt and trying to decide between backpack quiver and bow quiver. Possibly just broadhead sheaths and strapped to pack ? What have you found works and doesn't?

Southern Colorado is a sidearm needed?

I always carry one bow hunting. I download it to about 6 rounds in mag and throw a few extra rounds in pack. Use Q series holster and weight is minimal. I've had cats stalk me in the dark twice and a bow just wont do it if needed. Rifle hunts -no need for a short gun when you got a long gun.

    New Mexico 53- insight needed.

Ive killed a 330 bull there in the archery hunt over 12000 feet. I have seen some very nice bulls. This unit is an earlier rut in my opinion and that will make your hunt a little tougher. Elevations I find elk during the rut could be under 2 foot of snow during this hunt but likely not...

    OTC states

NM is OTC on private land, any weapon (season) except GMU's (2,4,5A). Of course you will most likely have to marry into it or need an outfitter to get access to that. We don't have preference points and some units are easier to draw than you would think. Coming from PA I would start the...

Southern New Mexico: Where can I expect to find muleys?

I would look for burn scars and start with the most recent and work backward chronologically. Also, be aware there are plenty of coues deer in this (speculating your unit based off of wilderness) unit as well and your tag is good for both if its that unit. If your not finding big mule deer you...

    Heading to New Mexico! 2b

I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news but the early rifle hunt is very rough and even the late hunt is over rated. The does are the first to migrate and will be there with the forkies but very rarely are there any bucks over 2 or 3 years old south of the CO border without a huge weather...
