    Lands evaluation

Lands in the freebore isn't uncommon. Min spec reamer, Max spec bore get you there pretty easily. I've seen a lot of throat areas where the lands didn't get cleaned out completely in a variety of chambers. And you assume they used a SAAMI spec for all of this. It was made in Japan. There is...

    Lands evaluation

I'm going to question if the chamber is crooked or if the lands have been worn smooth from cleaning without a bore guide. I see a lot of longitudinal scratches in that video that make me wonder. I also don't see any machining marks from the reamer in there. Even on old chambers you typically...

Maple or Walnut for a Wood Stock?

I've made many stocks from both and they have their own quirks. Once they are dried properly and finished its impossible to tell the difference outside of looks. Pick the one that you like the look of. Jeremy

    Which barrel contour??

Sorry for the delay. Depends on brand, but a #3 Shilen with 5 flutes will be around 2lbs 10 oz chambered in 7mm RM. Jeremy

    Trophy Mule Deer Outfitters

Cost no object? Greg Krogh with a unit wide Nevada LO tag. Can hunt unit wide in all seasons. They aren't weapon specific. I'd book an open hunt on a daily rate, and go until I shot my dream deer. Again, cost no object. There are other great Nevada guides, I just can't recall their names...

    Unknown tikka action mod issues…

The duck pond on the front ring hoses up your screw spacing options for a direct mount ring/base. Pinning and just using 3 holes is the easy way to go. That said, the factory dovetail is the strongest connection option. Jeremy

    Howa VS Tikka

There is nothing wrong with a Howa or Vanguard. The feed fine and have a longer mag box in the long action version. I have one sitting on the bench, it is a .270, and the stock mag is 3.5" long. It's getting rebarreled to 25-284. I'm not sure where the barrel comment comes from on being...

    Converting a tikka to .223

Try Shaen Magan, Shaen Custom Rifles. LRI is another to ask. Any gunsmith worth a hoot can do it, but it isn't usually in a list of services. You have to ask. Used to be a very common procedure for custom rifles. I've done three Tikka bolts, and it's not hard to do. Jeremy

    New gun thoughts

.375 Ruger or H&H. Ruger just released some African models in .375 Ruger. They need to be bedded, but are well done rifles. Otherwise, a Winchester M70, or CZ 550. I see no reason to have a .300 WM and a .338 of any flavor. Even though I have more than one .300 and a .340 Bee. I don't...

    Converting a tikka to .223

You can have a gunsmith reduce the bolt face by soldering in a bushing, cutting a new extractor slot, and notching the bushing for the ejector. It's not a difficult conversion. Jeremy

    Marine tex dye

No. Well, yes, but no. Marine Tex white has a much lower compressive strength than grey, and IMO, isn't suitable for bedding. It's intended to be flexible after curing for fiberglass repair applications. Grey is for machine repair and is much harder, but also more brittle. That said, it...

    LRI Cerakote

The burnished area will look like a piece of semi-dull scotch tape is on the barrel. Same color, but some amount shinier than the base cerakote finish. Not horrible, but you'll see it. E verse H, I don't have any long term durability feedback. In application, they both go on the same, and...

    Sidearm or Not?

I might carry a .22 for feathery 2 legged critters. Otherwise, I've never carried a sidearm while archery hunting. Jeremy

    Elk ivory bracelet

Jensen Jewelers does some really nice ivory work. They will do a standard design or custom. Jeremy

    GRS Bifrost

Just to update this. I did get one for that rifle. I like it. Complaints are the trigger reach is a little long and it's on the heavy side. Grip position is good. Adjustability is great. Didn't need to be bedded after a little sanding here and there to get a good fit. For the money, it...
