My original elk rifles were a .338 WM for a primary and a 375 H&H for a secondary. Now they are a 6.5 PRC and a 6.5 CM. IMO the CM is a better .308, and the PRC is a better 270 Win. I like the reduction in weight and recoil. Bullets have caught up with the CAD designs and CNC machining of the...
I sold my Cooper Open Country long range, and wanted to get someting a little lighter. Couldn't find anything in my LOP. Ended up with another Cooper Open Country, this one with the small mag...it likes the same loads as the rifle it replaced. So I'm back with the 1/8 twist.
I drew with 3X1. Went guided in the middle of the drought outside of Paonia. Saw one at 1100 yards. And that was as close as I was able to get as she was on top of the mountain, and I wasn't. If you are as old as I am, you're going to need someone to help get the animal out, they make an elk...
Brothers in Craig, the processor, took one of the pages of my license. They then did a list of all the cuts of the meat, as Colorado wants at the very minimum both hams, both shoulders and the back strap. Game Warden checked that I had the venison. They also had a bunch of paperwork I really...
Several years ago, I was returning from an instate guided hunt in Colorado. I had the bull professionally processed, and the rack was in the bed. I was stopped outside the Eisenhower tunnel. There were two CPW chase vehicles. They used lights and siren. Game Warden went through everything...
I have a Cooper Raptor in 6.5 CM, using 5 round steel AICS mags. While it didn't come out, I somehow activated the mag release while carrying it on my back and could feel the mag come loose. Magpul mags for some reason won't chamber a round in the gun.
I mentioned this on another forum. The only reason to introduce an apex predator into a pristine environment is to reduce or eliminate hunting. This goes hand in hand with Colorado's overt gun control. It's a two-pronged approach and they are winning in all the blue states. California...
I noticed that the Proof Research Tundra rifle in 6.5 PRC, and GA Precision's 6.5 PRC rifles have a 1/7.5 twist. What is this giving me that I'm not getting in a 1/8 twist 6.5 PRC?
I own a bino, spotter and scope from Meopta, and multiple scopes, and a EL from Swaroviski. I've never had to use either's customer service. I remain convinced that the best optics come from Europe.
I don't disagree with anything you said. But finding a consistent factory load that likes the bullet/barrel combo, being reasonably priced, and having it available in a big box store and an LGS for the life of the barrel is the rub. Especially during these times. I was dismayed when I purchased...
If you handload you'll want the long action so you can seat the bullet for the best accuracy in your particular rifle. If you don't handload, and have no plans to do so, I'd go with the short action. My Cooper came with the long action and I do handload. It beats the half-inch accuracy at 100...
I emailed them on an unrelated matter earlier this year looking for a spare breech plug and they indicated that each rifle was unique. If I wanted a spare, the MZ would have to be sent in, and they'd have to make one custom to that rifle. That said, if your rifle shoots to your expectations and...
