My son was able to fill his youth anterless moose tag yesterday and now, with that and 55 Sockeye salmon, our freezers are full! We're all feeling very fortunate to have the full freezers since we were down to our last 3 goat roasts and zero salmon. We were able to get the whole family involved this year, which made for considerably less work on me, but after yesterday I remember why it's been 6 years since my last moose hunt.

Oh, and Randy, if your reading this, I'm sure you'll be happy to know that he shot it with a 7 mm-08 Tikka T3 Lite.

A wife that packs a full front quarter, that's what I call a keeper.
The smile on your boys face tells it all, good job!

Ha, ha, yeah and she only weighs about 110 lbs., so she was easily packing half her body wt. My son weighs 90 lbs. and I weighed (when we got home), the quarter that he packed and it was right at 90 lbs., on the pack frame. Fortunately we only had to pack it about a quarter mile back to the truck.

Awesome pics! What bullet was the 7-08 shooting?
140gr. Barnes triple shock. One shot kill, broad side double lung, and pass through at about 40 yards. After the shot, she stood there for about 15 seconds then took off like a rocket and didn't leave any kind of a blood trail what-so-ever. We only had hoof prints to follow and after about 60 yards or so they petered out. Fortunately she only went about 20 more yards and piled up. It was the damnedest thing I've ever seen, at the point of impact there was literally 3 drops of blood about the size of my little finger nail then absolutely no blood until we go to where she dropped and there was a 2'x2' puddle of blood. My son was wanting to take a second shot but I told him not to, I was thinking that she was just going to eventually lay down and die (I've seen moose do that on multiple occasions). After she took off and us not being able to find any kind of a blood trail, I started kicking myself for not allowing him to shoot again. Anyway, it took us about 30 min. to find her, and fortunately for us, she ran in pretty much a straight line.

Awesome. My freezer only has two coho in it and I am not hunting this season, I don't know what my family is going to do LOL. So awesome to make those memories as a family.

My 10 yr old son is taking his hunter safety course in two weeks. Grandpa gave him a Ruger American Compact in 7mm-08 and we loaded up 140 grain Partitions. Spring bear will be our first chance to test it out, I anticipate many animals falling to the 7mm-08 in the future.

Good Job!
