Anyone ever hunt moose in Newfoundland? For some reason Newfoundland is one of my dream hunts place just seems so rugged and wild. If anyone has how is it. Do the Moose act different?

I went last year with my father. We had a great time. We both killed moose. The terrain is varied. It is patches of woods with blown down timber and bogs.

I hunted there in 2004. It was with The Hide Away Lodge. Out of grand falls-Windsor. Friends of mine go back every year. Great service and hunting area. We got 4 moose and 1 other guy missed. There were 6 in camp. Rob and Sue Folks are the owners. Great people.

I hunted last October with Besaws Log Cabin Outfitters in the Lewis Hills. Very good outfitter in a very good area. More physically demanding than I anticipated as we were in steep terrain. There were times we'd spot a good bull but because of a deep gorge with river in bottom we could not get to him. Last morning everything worked out and I took a dandy 22 pointer with 51" spread. This was a fly in hunt being dropped off in a remote area by helicopter with a sparse camp. Fly in operations are the best bet if you're looking for something better than average. You are looking at a cost of + or - $10,000. Drive in camps are much more reasonable and provide a good experience and great tasting meat with the harvest of a moose. However, the chances at a older "trophy" bull are less. Anyway, NF is a great experience at the best bargain in North America to experience a Moose hunt. Do it with a good, reputable outfitter and you won't be disappointed.

I bowhunted NL several years back with no luck. Hell the only bull I saw was in town. But, sign was everywhere and temps were crazy hot (90s) so I call it bad timing. Since we had either sex tags, I took a fleeting opportunity at the only moose I saw - a cow - the last night at last light and didn’t connect. I’ve had friends hunt with the same outfitter with luck on decent bulls - but I’d say be cautious of hunting too early in the season. We tried to hit the rut and it was just too hot.

It was the middle of September - I think it was 2008 or 2009. I can't remember exactly. It was my 3rd hunt to try and put a moose on the ground - and no buenuo...I've hunted Russia, British Columbia, and then Newfoundland that year. The moose and I just can't connect...lots of cows, just no bulls.

Last Fall My party went to Newfoundland and hunted with Next Ridge Outfitters. They are a fly in camp. You really want a Fly in camp if you want a chance at hunting animals unpressured by the local hunters and to have a shot at a decent sized animal. The locals only get a license every two years and they usually stay where they can drive to and get out easy as they mainly use it as a substance hunt. We had an awesome time!! We walked a lot to get our Moose. It was Myself, My father and a friend of ours. We had a hurricane come in part way thru our hunt And kinda shut down the animal activity. It was awesome!!
