Thats a stud. Hard to believe he passed him on the 2nd day. But you have to pass good ones to find the great ones.

Slim Jim, with your archery skills, you'd do well down there.

Wow, great hunt. He worked hard and made it happen. I could really stand to learn a thing or two from guys like him or Robby

I see the haters have migrated over here, jealousy is an ugly thing! I have no problem with anyone wanting to get paid for their time, provided it's within the bounds of the law.

That buck is amazing, and looks even wider than 35". Buck of a lifetime for most guys.

Camo isn’t too high on Brian’s list of important. Can’t argue with success

Not high on mine either, and for the same reason. Was eye rolling the camo only crowd. Heck of a deer, impressive mental game for consistent success like that.

If you are calling his services unethical, then do you also call the use of a guide unethical? Isn't it the same thing, the guide scouts a buck, you pay him to take you to where he saw the buck and you try to shoot it? The difference seems to be the actual amount of money trading hands, probably a 4:1 difference where you may spend 4K on a guided hunt or 1K on a scouted hunt and you more of the work on the scouted hunt. I have no problem if Wyoming passes their law that says Mr. Latturner needs an outfitter's license or he needs to be employed by an outfitter, that is up to them. If he had an outfitter's license would this be called unethical?

I agree 100%. You price estimates are off though, I'd say more like 6-7k for guided hunt and I think Brian was only charging $500 for his service?

Providing a location for a buck somebody saw in August in the velvet is hardly a guarantee of success, more of a starting point I'd say.

I've been in the scouting business 20 years and have learned this: People always "think" it should be illegal, but rarely can they make a good point on why. In every state, a guides license is required if you accompany a person on to forest, BLM, etc, but not for consulting with people you never meet in person. If the states vote to change the law, good by me, but they know they have little ground to stand on.

Most of the time it is fearful residents who are just sure their own hunting will be affected. My company does about 15 scouting packages a year across the entire state of Idaho. I've yet to have anyone make a case that we're affecting anyone. But lots of guys are just sure it's unethical and will lead to the demise of hunting, even though many of them post on my forum looking for help on finding areas. They figure if they aren't paying anything, then it's ethical, if they are, then it's unethical. Strange thinking to me.

I’m pretty sure none of these guys providing scouting services are getting rich from the fees they charge. I’d bet the fees just cover fuel and a little extra change in their pockets. In my view they’re providing a service to the hunter that doesn’t want to be fully guided but doesn’t have the time or resources to scout themselves. They are simply putting you in an area that hopefully will be decent hunting. I absolutely don’t agree with the way Wyoming outfitters try to regulate the hunting in the state. If you want to point fingers at someone doing a money grab I’d start there.

Oh the irony. "it's unethical" some say what Mr. latturner is doing.....this, coming from residents who live in a state that won't allow DIY hunters (hikers and fisherman are okay) in the wilderness without a guide or resident escort. Hmmmmmm

Wait, don't forget its OK for NR's to DIY hunt the wilderness for small game, just not big game. That right there shows the true reasons for the law have nothing to do with safety.

Maybe they're just concerned about possible injury involved with packing out larger game. :)
