I'm doing a pack in mule deer hunt into the east side of this unit and was looking for info on finding drinking water. Google earth and Onxmap isn't showing a lot of options. If you've been into that area of the blue mountains I'd sure be interested in hearing what you did for water.

This unit can seem big due to the steepness of the terrain, but in many ways it's very small. The ridge between Joseph Cr and the Grande Ronde has no water to speak of....you might get lucky but I've not seen any up high enough to be useful. The ridge/mountains between Joseph Cr and the Snake has more mixed terrain and water. Know that the heart of it is accessed by an ATV trail that is open during rifle season, so have reasonable expectations. More elk than deer I think. Steep. I've seen more bucks down by the rivers than in the high hills.
