Chasing elk. Thompson Encore Pro Hunter here. Just got an Eabco trigger job and a couple packs of Thor’s to attempt sight in tomorrow.

What are ya’ll using? Wanted to liven up the muzzleloader section, it’s quiet in here.

Finally drew three muzzleloader tags this year, so I picked up a CVA Wolf Stainless. Cow elk in CO, Sambar and whitetail in FL. Threw on an Eabco peep rib sight/rail and Leupold VX-1 2-7 scope in QR rings for sighting in and my FL hunts. Shooting BH209, tried the Federal Bor Lok bullets but my rifle didn’t like them. Some 300 gr Thor’s just showed up the other day.

One thing I didn’t expect was how much small miscellaneous crap you need for a muzzleloader, I found a small plastic ammo box at Academy to keep it all together for my range bag.

I will be using a Knight MK85 or a White M97 in .50 cal to hunt on an either sex tag for elk, in September, in Colorado. Load will be 460 grain No Excuses all-lead conical, vegetable fiber wad, 80 grain T7 FFFg (+-) and no11 cap.
CO rules forbid sabots and scopes. It keeps things simple. And big lead simply hammers elk...

For whitetail..
TC Triumph with a Nikon 2-7x prostaff.
250 gr Hornady XTP with an MMP sabot and 100 grains of 777.
Our early season lines up with prime chasing in the rut.

Easy enough for me.... During regular rifle season, I would use a Knight ULite… Shooting a .452x265 Lehigh with 120 gr. Vol of BH or T7.

Then during late ML season... another Ulite with .503x460 Bull Shop with 90 grs, Vol of t7...

For East coast whitetails will use a T/C Omega topped with a 3X9X40 Swarovski, in .50 cal w/150 grains of white hot pellets behind a 300 grain Hornady .45 cal bullet.

Glad to see somebody else admitting to shooting a Cva wolf. Mine has been great so far. Track driver and super light.

I have a Wolf too, great little gun. I'll be carrying my T/C Pro Encore Pro Hunter with Vortex Diamondback 3-9x40 this year for whitetail in VA. Gonna be a while before I get to lose the optic for a Western elk hunt. Sucks.

I am still using the TC Black Diamond I got for Christmas 17 years ago as a young man. Its tempting to me to switch to a more modern, weather proof, lighter and easier to clean muzzleloader (not to mention much better looking) but I grew up using Hawken muzzleloaders as a kid so it wouldn't feel like blackpowder hunting if my gun wasnt somewhat heavy with a chance of condensation causing a misfire. LOL
