With the new laws in WA that allow us to use 209 primers I've decided to go to blackhorn 209 powder.
I am shooting a CVA Optima and have already got a new Blackhorn 209 breach plug, powder and primers.
As far as primers I noticed some differences in numbering. 209 ,209A in federal and magnum 209. I decided to go with the magnum 209 and they don't seem to sit in the breach plug the way I think they should. I would think it should seat all the way down and not be loose.
If anyone has experienced with this please share some insight.

Hi. I’ve used Federal shotshell primers and CCI behind BH209 with good success in several muzzleloders, Cooper, Knight, TC.
Not much more than that to offer, you’ll love the BH209

Thanks Robby for your input. Are the federal the 209A primers or the CCI Magnum 209?

I have that same rifle and use cci 209 magnum primers. The primer will not seat all the way in and there will be a little bit of wiggle room. I have had primers get stuck in other guns due to tight primer pockets but never with the cva.
My gun was a little finicky with loads but it shoots 1.5 moa out to 250yds with this load.
110 gr blackhorn
250 gr bloodline bullet in black MMP sabot.

I just checked: Federal 209A. I’m not sure on the CCI as I quit using them years ago.

110 to 120 with a 240 or 250 has seem to be the sweet spot on my omega. The BH is good stuff and clean, I like the BH solvent as well.

240 or 250 conicals or with sabots? I have an Omega that my daughter used on her elk last year, but was not impressed with the Powerbelt performance so I just got some Thor 250gr conicals to try.

At the moment I am using 300 gr SST. I will primarily using them for elk and don't want to be switching back and forth between bullets.

Would love to hear your feedback after you get a chance to try them.
