Just looking for the best deal on a range finder with angle compensation. This will be used for rifle and archery so needs to be 1000 yard model or equivalent.

So far the Vortex 1000 is leading the charge at around $300 but open to suggestions from everyone else.

I'm using a Nikon ProStaff 7i, and like it. Angle compensation, and ranges to 1300 yards if you can hold that steady. Special at the big C box store now for about $270.

There is a Bushnell Scout 1000 on the classifieds right now for $100.

There are a bunch of better rangefinders available. That one would be just about my last choice.

I lost confidence in my vortex ranger, it would read 5 yards off on downhill shots and from 11 to about 30 yards it would only read 22 or 28 yards I cant remember now. I ended up with a luepold 1200 and so far I'm happy with it.

I love the Bushnell Gforce 1300 arc. Idk about other rangefinders but the Gforce allows you to put in the caliber of gun with the bullet weight you are using and it will calculate the MOA adjustment you need to make. I'm sure others have that capability but I just don't know because I haven't used any others.

A word of caution... Just because it says "1000" in the name, doesn't mean it will actually provide that kind of performance. I've used several of the Nikon, Bushnell, and Vortex models and not one of them has come close to ranging the advertised performance. I upgraded to a Leica 1000R and that is the best one I have used. It advertises 1000yards, but in my "field" experience it is reliable out to about 700-800. Beyond 700, it becomes hit or miss. More importantly, it is more reliable at ALL ranges than the cheaper LRFs. To play devil's advocate, do you really need a rangefinder that will range to 1000yds? If you aren't going to shoot that far, which 99.9% of us never will, then 1000yd performance really is just a cool number and has little utility in the field. In the entry-level tier of LRFs, I have had best experience with Leupolds, FWIW. Good luck!
