Swarovski low light performance 8x42 vs 12x50

For low light performance, will an El 12x50 last longer into the night then an SLC 8x42 hd? I suspect they will both peter out around the same time but haven't ever had a chance to compare. I know a 10x42 El and 8x42 SLC both lose the object around the same time at 100 yards.

I'd suspect the 8x to win out just based upon the exit pupil numbers.

I'd suspect the 8x to win out just based upon the exit pupil numbers.

They both have an exit pupil of 5 roughly, but the 12s have a bigger surface area to resolute and take in light. I'd be surprised if the was any difference.

5.25 vs 4.2 are not roughly the same. 8x should be considerably brighter.
