Talking about the snake in post 4443, are their eyes always grayish/glazed over like that or was it starting to shed its skin?

Good question, I prefer not to get close enough to check usually. I saw 4 that morning, they've just woken up for the season and are mating.
It's a red bellied black snake, or just black snake locally. They usually are more colorful than this.
I google searched and saw that their eyes often look like this.
