6mm REMINGTON you can't beat it!! I use a Ruger #1B in 6mm Remington and use what I shoot for game which is a 100 gr. Nosler Partition. It works very well.

Another 6mm Remington fan here.

Mine is built on a T3 action, with a Lilja barrel.

Topped with a Leupold 4-14 "long range", with an M1 elevation turret.

I built this AR as a purpose built predator rifle.

I tend to walk a fair bit between sets, so I wanted it light and handy.

It has a White Oak Precisionbarrel that has been turned down to a "pencil" profile, mostly Colt Defense internals, Geiessele trigger, and a carbon fiber for-end. It used to wear a 4x ACOG, but currently sports a 4-12 Leupold, with M1 turret, in a lightweight AERO mount. As should be expected with match components, it shoots tiny little groups, yet still is very light and a joy to pack in the field.

I do not own a 223. I just picked up a nice savage .22 mag with a heavy barrel to shoot ground hogs on the farm by my new place. There is a good amount of coyote as well. Can I use the 22 mag? Head shot? Vital shots?
I have it set up with a bipod, big 50mm scope and a red light.
Never hunted coyote , so any advise would help.

It will work but ranges need kept short. If you'll take only head shots most any 30 or 40gr HP will do. I would avoid the polymer tip bullets, they have had splash hits on raccoons for me where the HP's have not. I'd go with something like the CCI 40gr JSP for heart shots. I would want to shoot them in open enough areas with the 22 mag that I could see them run for a bit, might not drop instantly without a perfect shot.

A 223 or similar gun is much more versatile. It gives you more range, more effective shot options, and more damage and shock when it hits. If a new rifle wasn't in the cards though I'd still hunt with a 22 mag, I'd just be very careful with shot placement and stand selection.

Multi-Use AR.

Ultra lite Faxon Barrel on my old Colt I have run since the late 90s. 4X ACOG topped with RDO in custom mount.

Very fast, very light. It works for a variety of roles. It may not be optimal for a single thing, but it works very well at many things, and is easy to shoot well, quickly.

223 REM 16.25" barrel with 7.7 twist and 27.25" OAL.
No coyotes taken with this yet because there aren't any where I live. Actually I've never lived anywhere with coyotes but my house is up for sale and I'm moving to where I can hunt coyotes and coywolves 10 months of the year just you're limited to .25 or smaller caliber. This spitting 80's should do the trick. The handling is exceptional for a long range gun and thanks to its balance its a dream to shoot offhand. Carried slung tight to the front with a bungee sling you hardly know its there even in its LR config which is approx. 15lbs.

Mini 14, Winchester model 70 243 wssm, Henry 17 HMR, Remington R-10 243, TC Venture 204 ruger, and my big game rifle Sako A7 300wsm. The Sako seems to be what I have with me most often when I see coyotes.

Depends on what I grab, and where I am going...

Typically either a Remington 700 in .22 Creedmoor

Or a CZ527 in .223 Ackley

My favorite is my 22-250 Ruger m77 varmint with a 6×20 Leopold shooting 55 grain vmax with 38 grains of H380.. I just bought a browning white gold medallion in a 22-250. Windy days 25-06 browning medallion. Last year we got 56 yotes the best year was 106
