Finally got out to test this load and it's pretty fur friendly surprisingly. Shot this male at 108 yds couldn't see entrance or exit. Sure one heck of a whop, dropped it immediately. Tried the 87 gr vmax last year and it ripped the coyote to shreds. First call in for the new banshee, and my repaired crew cab carried him quite nice. Will know a bit more about the bullet fragmentation when I skin it in the morning...

Got him skinned out, entrance in the neck in front of the shoulder no exit. Approx 3700 fps at 100 yds the bullet just exploded quite bloodshot in the neck area though. Have to do more testing. 50 gr v max 22-250 has been my favorite for years and it really reaches out there. But this one might work great too, had to adjust my poi from the 87 gr though. Anybody have any combinations that allow bullet weight changes without changing poi and having to re sight in all the time?

Nice Note. Coat looks pretty good?

Similar results with my .223 Rem, shooting 50gr Vmax at 3300 and 55grVmax at 3240. Both of these are pretty darn close regarding POI and no re sighting required. Cant help ya in .243

How do you like your Banshee? I think it's a great unit for the price.

I really like it so far I had and still have a spitfire with a auxiliary speaker. But this call is louder and clearer and the foxbang remote is really nice I don't have to fumble around after a shot for pup distress now. I used to think 24 sounds was enough but I have 147 on this one and it sure is nice!

I'm assuming it's probably pretty normal to have to re sight in. The 22-250 I have is 1 in 14 twist so 50 grain is all it shoots good anyway. The 243 seemed nice to have the 58 to 105 bullet weight options. Opinions are all over on which are best for coyotes on the forums I've researched.

That's surprising but glad it works for you. The 55gr vmax I've tried from .223 tore the hide up something awful. I've gone to using a .17 Hornet for a fur friendly rifle. I prefer something heavier, though. Luckily, down here in the thick south Texas brush, I shoot 80% of my coyotes and bobcats with 3" T-shot from a 12ga. Works great to around 65yds and most of my shots are inside 50. Congrats on the load!

Well the first one was beginners luck. The 2nd was the same whop but now I have a mess. Back to the 22-250 I guess.

That was the entrance so not so fur friendly and it was sure a nice one.

I have had good luck... With sierra 55 grain blitz kings... But I shoot a Ar. 223... I have yet to have a exit hole.. With just a 22 cal entrance..

I would not jump based on 2nd shot. My experience is if you hit bone you can blow an exit hole more severely.

That was the entrance.

I agree, 2 samples is not enough. In statistics, the general rule of thumb is 30 samples minimum for accurate representation! Looks like you have 28 more yotes to go

Every V max I've hit the shoulder with like that has made a severe wound like your pic shows. If you can stay off bone those bullets do much better. Even the 40gr V max from my 204 will make a mess on a shoulder. I actually like the 45gr SP Hornady 204 loads as good as anything I have found for a fur friendly load. I can take about any angle with those and have a tiny entrance, and when the do exit that hole is pretty small too. Anytime a bobcat might show the 204 with these is my favorite option.

The V max are good bullets and what I do most of my yote hunting with. I've used many from the 40gr Superformance loads in 204, 50gr Superformance loads in 22-250, RAM 55gr loads in 223 (2960fps from my AR), to 75gr V max in 243 and 6mm. The smaller and slower ones are more fur friendly, but even the big ones usually do well on a big coyote when kept off bone. They are destructive enough I can even hold to far back on purpose to avoid the shoulder and still get instant kills, plus have more margin for error with the 22-250 and bigger guns.

All of this info is good to know, it was blowing 25 mph wind and this coyote came out downwind heading right to the call and my scent trail. I couldn't stop her so I had to take a moving shot so it was just lucky I even called one in. Probably just one of those things that happen. It was around 80 yards. Haven't gave up yet on the 243. I liked shooting it so much I picked up a savage axis 22-250 in stainless. The 243 is the same thing. My other 22-250 is a older handi rifle single shot. It was just quite slow to re load after a shot but it does help to teach you to make the 1st one count! Lesson hopefully learned don't hit the shoulder.

Don't feel bad, I'd much rather damage a pelt than miss a yote! I take what shot they offer, if the shoulder is what they offer I'll take it. Actually I won't with the 204 and 40gr V max, but will with anything else. That bullet is to fast and to fragile and I can't count on it to break the shoulder.

New 22-250 is working well no blown up mess with the 50 gr v max. I think the 243 will be in use with the 87 gr for the bigger elk killing yappers.
