FNG from Texas

I have been reading and quietly sitting in the dark and taking information from here for a good while now. I am from Texas and bow hunt here for whitetail and kill hogs by any means possible. I also have the chance to chase those big Kansas whitetails every fall with my bow. Now that I'm done with college and working in the real world, I am wanting to make at least one trip West every year. Initially I am thinking Colorado Mule Deer every year and trying to build points in other states from mulies/elk as well. Have very limited experience backcountry hunting but I really wanna give it a shot. Any advice on high country mule deer tactics or gear would be awesome. Thank you
