WA Deer

The doldrums of the afternoon. It got hot. She had some reading do to for her graduate class..

While sitting here, some guys walk into the basin talking sooooooo loud. Really ruined that drainage for us. They camped right in the middle of all the meadows where we were seeing deer. Made a huge fire. You could here them talking from our tent 1.5 miles away!! I watched them stick 4 1 lb packages of bacon in the stream we were using!

We slipped out without them knowing we were there. Decided to head to our original glassing perch, as it is right above the bottom meadow where the buck was in the morning... About 500 yard shot....

He never showed. But glassing the bottom of a drainage to the north we see 3 does and a nice big buck. Not sure how big but over 1000 yards and my 9x45 had no trouble telling he was legal and big. Was to far and too late to get a shot.

So first thing this morning we glass it again and see 3 deer almost at the head of the drainage. We book it over to the next ridge about 2 miles and over 1000 feet gain and loss.....

And here we are waiting....

Yea, warm during the day. Wish the nights would be cooler. High overcast all day. Light overcast. Seems to be building though to the Northwest.

Well shit. Saw the big two point again with his does. Then we saw about 7 people headed up the basin. We are packed and heading out.

Learned a good deal about this area. I hope to get back in here in late October. Maybe the rut is earlier up high.

Will also push out further and check out some of the more distant basins.

My wife was able to take a wolf with her spork. She's cool but doesn't have a podcast yet

Looks like you had a good time. We were in elk this year and didnt see a legal buck, but it's always a fun hunt.
