My bear had been shot in the forehead by100 grain muzzy broadhead and about 8 “ of carbon shaft buried in neck about an inch from spine. Broadhead was starting to deteriate, I called it the ted nugent bear.
We carried hides and skulls carry on and donated our bear meat to locals. Fish boxes for meat would be extra checked baggage.
Ferry may only run once day in spring but float plane service in Ketchikan available.
I don’t think bear meat has to be salvaged in Alaska...

There are places on POW that provide amenities depending on how much money you want to spend.
I have flown in with my tent and gear, rented a 4x4 in Craig and had successful hunts. Mountain house meals and backpack stove are great. Weather usually mild to on the wet side.

Maintaining a bait is a lot of work and not legal in some states so......you hunt bears natural food source.
In the spring in Alaska they go to beach or skunk cabbage.
Saw bears on Wy hillsides with skunk cabbage.
Seen bears in CA eating acorns in NF. Public land above avocado orchards is good...
If they went any lower in elevation here they'd be in the ocean...

Bears do hibernate in southern CA. Sows have to hibernate to have cubs. Very few pics from mar to feb. Don't think they deep sleep like some states. Saw some feeding sign yesterday.

Harvested an old bear this opening weekend. Helped taxidermist flesh the hide. Now have to process a big cooler of boned out meat.
21" green score on skull. Hide looks nice but face all scared and scratched up.
