Cant go wrong with Davis. Also I did the same thing as you and special ordered from them, had another door added and screens to use during the summer for family camping. With a investment this big just make sure you get what you want even if this means saving a little longer for it
I have the same unit, just used mine for 3 weeks and it has not changed the way it powers up. Mine is on Hardware version 2.1, and firmware version 3.2 (635904)
Not a very good option to have with the unit powering up by just touching the button
Long term rental, pickup or van is good and they give you plenty of mileage. I have used a pickup and towed my trailer out west had no issues at all. The pickups come with a hitch, the vans do not. Look at weekly and monthly long term on their website

Does your truck have a trailer hitch? I put on a hitch haul, and put my gas cans on there to keep the fumes out of my truck. Can pick up a hitch haul pretty cheap
Glassing will be your best friend if they are not talking. Sitting water would be something I would look into also.
