I shot that same bullet last year out of my 280AI and was not impressed on a cow elk at 360 yards. I killed another cow elk earlier in the year with a 140 grain Sierra game king and much better bullet performance but granted that was a 100 yard shot too. I switched back to the game king for this...
Original ackley. But when I talked to them they said it was safe to shoot Remington 280 and the saami spec nosler loads. I fire formed Remington 280 and got the original ackley shoulder dies.
Cooper Backcountry...that way you know it's going to shoot well and it's light weight. You could put a heavy scope like a NightForce ATACR 5-25 and still be just over 8 pounds and really reach out there if you want to.
I'm certainly happy with mine. Not sure if you're referencing my earlier posts about trying to achieve the 1/2 moa accuracy as your basis for concern about the accuracy but my issues were directly attributed to the actions screws being loose. I have been a bow hunter for 25 years and this is my...
Cool. Thanks for the info!! Farthest I have shot mine thus far is 350...and that was at the second elk I've killed with my backcountry. I want to start shooting at longer distances and will be doing so in the off season. I also plan to take 200 rounds prarie dog hunting to fire form more brass...
I haven't tried it without the break but I probably should...mine is a lighter caliber so maybe I don't need the break for the recoil but I also wanted a rifle I could enjoy shooting so felt recoil is very manageable on my 280AI(as would be expected out of any rifle in that caliber really)
yeah I don't think your ruffling any feathers, certainly not mine... and maybe I didn't articulate my point very well. I was just trying to say that from my experience the thin barrel has not made it an inaccurate rifle with consecutive shots...and I think any rifle that you get shooting well...
I am new to the firearm world in all reality...I've been a bow hunter for the last 25 years so I am still learning this discipline. I was at the range with my Cooper Model 92 the other day...it was about 55 degrees and I was taking a break between my 5 shot stepping powder charge increments but...
Just curious...what worries you about thin barrels? seems like it is pretty unavoidable for a light rifle but just wondering what part you don't like about it?
yep...and I'll probably go back to visit their facility but Cooper doesn't sell direct to customers, you have to order from one of their authorized dealers.
I ordered mine from Trader Brothers...mainly because of proximity(I'm only a couple hundred miles away) and MT sales tax vs WA sales tax. Matt's a great guy and I drove over to pick mine up.
