Had the same issue, wishing I could try before I bought. In the end I purchased the Gemtech Tracker, mainly as it seemed designed for the hunter in mind. The can is not full auto rated, as it's meant for hunting, so there for it is not as large/heavy as others.

A little while ago I picked up two lanterns on Massdrop called Luminaid. They have worked really well, they last for awhile when charged, their light, and pack down well. The solar panel I'm sure would work with time, but I have not been able to leave it out long enough to know for sure...
They may have updated their menu, but their staples are their chicken chili, red rock chili, beef stew, and one other chicken dish (caldera something). You can not go wrong with those options.
As for the size, yes they are smaller in portion than Mountain House, but the ingredients they use...
Oh, and to the OP, i do not think Chiper is yellow at all.
For my camo I mainly have a mix of fusion and Chipher. However, i have been so impressed with chipher that most of my new gear is purchased in that pattern.

I carry along the Dark Energy Poseidon...it is not that much bigger than my phone, I can get multiple charges out of it, its well worth bringing along.

Another fan of Paleo Meals to Go. Their beer stew is one of my go to favorites, I will bring it on every trip.

That was my thought when I saw the news...It amazes me they stuck it out this long. California was/is a great state, but it is not going business friendly, and obviously not 2A friendly.
They have pretty good deals...but every now and then the price point they offer plus shipping will come out to more than just buying the item from a place like Amazon.

This is a good option...or just know you can still get a good tent, it may not just be the lightest. Be realistic to your self on how much weight you want to carry and then narrow down from there. Perhaps hauling around an extra 2 pounds can save you an extra $200. Later on, once you have...
Too add another option for you to consider of you are not finding the exact one you want ...there is a user on here William Hanson (Live2Hunt) that makes custom tent/tipis. Most people seem pretty pleased with his work.

If you are going solo you have a lot of options, my favorite being Tarptent's (you will find a lot of good reviews on them), of which i have the Stratospire. If you are looking at doing a hunt with another person, I would suggest a Kifaru Tut or some of the smaller offerings by Seek...
