    DIY stove guys

That’s a great question...I want to say 16”? It’s been a little while since I made it, so I’d need to go measure the dimensions. I think it was about 8” diameter. I have some in progress pictures that I took, too if that would help at all. If you end up bending up some legs for whatever stove...

    Cabela's Meindl Alaskan Hunter boots

I have a brand new pair of size 12 D Cabela's Meindl Alaskan Hunter boots, they've got 200 gram insulation. I ended up with another set of boots and these are now extras. These are brand new in the box. Not sure what shipping would be, but I’m looking for $275...

    DIY stove guys

I’m happy with my cylinder stove. That being said, I’ve never owned a production one, so I could be missing out big time? Mine has a Ti body and pipe with stainless ends and stainless rod bent up for legs. I can’t remember how much I paid, but it was cheaper than buying a commercial one. I also...

    DIY Tipi help

Another vote for the large zip tie. I started off with weed eater line and all mine did was try to twist back up into the coil it was in before... I then tried cutting up some strips from this thin, flexible cutting boards. That worked okay, but the zip tie (got them at Walmart) seemed to end up...

    Pyramid Tent WIP

And last of all, a shot in the great outdoors. My son shot his dee about a half mile from the tent last fall. It got COLD and wow was it windy that night....the tent held up well and kept us dry. Thanks to everyone who helped me along the way! Jeremy

    Pyramid Tent WIP

I think I finally got some of the picture thing figured out with Imgur, so I wanted to add in some more pictures. Hopefully, they might help some others thinking about a project like this. Some of the reinforcing patches for the grosgrain loop/stake out points: Double stitching the...

    DIY tipi

Another vote for Ripstop. I got pretty much all my supplies for my pyramid tent from them and they were great to deal with. Check out their factory seconds, as well. I knew the material I wanted and happened to see they had it for cheaper there and I didn’t mind the different green than I’d...

    Scarpa Kinesis Pro

If you otherwise like them, maybe try a pair of Scarpa Zanskars. I got a pair from an online dealer that was awesome. Got to talk with them and ordered a couple sizes to see which felt better and then sent one back. I planned to get a pair of the ones you have to compare, but they went off sale...

    Another DIY Stove

Mine look very similar to the one pictured above. I wanted something stainless so I found some rod at a local Tacoma Screw but all they had on the small end was 1/8”. I went with it and when I needed more, I remembered the welding supply place nearby. They had tons of stainless rod for Tig...

    Scarpa Zanskars Review

I got out last weekend with these boots. I’ve worn them several times around town and a day out on a friends boat fishing. I ended up getting some L&S insoles for these boots and ran into an interesting “issue”. I fit the insoles myself after trimming them and had a problem at the heels. The...

    Another tent help thread

I’d have to go back and look, but I think I did a #8 zipper... I did 2 pulls so I could unzip it from the top to help vent as well as unzip from the bottom. I clipped off the metal pulls and used some lightweight strong string instead. On a side note, I thought I was going to do a zipper...

    Another tent help thread

I agree on the zipper foot. I used a standard, regular foot for most of the stitching and the zipper foot for the long zipper. Other than that, I was set. I made my pyramid tent out of silpoly and didn’t do cat cuts. As mentioned above, there are pros and cons and it adds some complexity to the...

    DIY stove help please

I used steel rivets for mine and have had no issues. I’d be more worried with the aluminum ones. Just not sure they’d hold up to the heat. You may be able to carefully drill them out without making the drilled holes any bigger and replace them with steel ones of the same size. Jeremy

Knife... custom or no and what size?

I haven’t used it personally, but from what I know of it, L6 can be a great knife steel. There are a whole lot of steels that CAN be very good for cutting things up. But they’re only as good as the heat treatment they receive. A maker of company can have the holy grail of all steels, but if it...

    DIY Tent Guyouts

I second the zipper foot-it just allows for much better results when trying to stitch next to the zipper(s). As for the guy outs, I have done it two ways. On my tarp, I made up some seam sealer and had some round reinforcing "patches" that I'd cut out of the same silpoly the tarp was made out...

Starter sewing machine - recommendations needed

I’d say go for it, but only if you get that cool Love craft thing on it ;). I know for my machines, the 1.1 silpoly was somewhat difficult. That being said, I think it was about the learning curve for me. As in, how does it best feed going through it. It was interesting as I went along because I...
