Anything with more powder than 223/6.5G/30-30 and bullets more than 130gr will kick too much. We think .243 doesn't kick, but it does to them.
Kids have a hard time with actions other than semi-auto or lever and that's with you charging the semi. Even with small capacity cartridges, if the gun...
Never really found it to make a difference in taking the shot. Coming to rest with two points of contact is much more effective. It does help on follow through and getting back on target while running the action.
22lr is not impressive on coon, but it is quiet. I shoot them with 22mag pistol, which is about like 22lr rifle except loud. Not impressive either, but I hunt over dogs. That's another story.
I think you have to consider where you will place the bullet. Need more velocity for vitals shot than...
The econo model plastic stocked jobs I've tried were less consistent than plain wood rigs I have. A good synthetic stock is probably better than a wood stock. A cheap one is usually worse.
I compared cheap synthetic vs wood directly back when I was playing with Savage builds. The cheap...
I've had my hard contacts dislodged when in the field by things like a branch slapping me in the face or a foreign object popping one off when blinking. So, I feel the need to wear safety or sunglasses in addition to the contacts. I see better with contacts, but if I have to wear glasses anyway...
Dawn, warm water and a microfiber cloth. If in the field, just water. I'll leave it dirty rather than clean without plenty of fluid to flush abrasives away before wiping. A large part of the price you pay is for quality of coatings. Don't monkey with the coatings. They go bad from age soon enough.
Not since I started bedding and sealing the interior. I have not tested this at long range on paper. I just haven't noticed it at short range on paper or medium range on game or long range on steel. I wouldn't use a plain wood stock if I intended long range on game. I don't intend, though...
I literally forgot the bolt for a rifle once. Didn't remember to put it in when I took it out of the safe. I have had to let animals go because my ear pro was on me but not accessible.
The damage from one shot of a high pressure cartridge through a brake is worse than standard rifles. You can...
Muzzle brakes are a horrible idea unless you have an unusual degree of self discipline allowing you to watch a B&C bull trot off because you forget your ear plugs. If you are considering a rig which will recoil higher than your personal preference, add a suppressor to the budget and consider...
I've used a pair of the Yosemite quite a lot for several years. I use them for finding squirrels. They are very handy and sufficient for the task in good light.
Low light performance isn't what I find acceptable for other hunting.
I askes this as what have you killed that you couldn't with a 308 ans 2-7x scope. The consensus was very little. Shooting much past 300 yards at game in windy conditions is a specialized skill set most dont have time for.
Blaser K95 Carbon is currently produced. NEF Superlight in 243 or 7mm08 may be found used. These carbines have brisk recoil even in .243.
Break actions are not as consistent as bolt actions.
