I can draw Iowa if I want but returning to scout first week of March, even though I’ve hunted zone 5 since 1990. Not going to short change myself after the long wait & high price between tags. I can’t believe how many NR’s just show up first time without scouting. But I meet some every hunt...
Yikes 10 years! 😳 I bought an IL LL in 2006 after moving there just 60 days, and the requirement was only 30. Easily the best $190 investment I ever made. 😂 Ended up living there 13 years but moved to IN in 2019 to escape the ridiculous taxes. Not subsidizing million dollar state employee...
Very simple. I only hunt public land, and the IN state deer management regulations are not conducive to mature bucks. Plus the number of public properties far less than IL.
32 gun days, 16 in peak rut; 12+ years of xgun inclusion; no bow nor gun hunter quotas, no NR bow nor gun quotas ravage...
Illinois but only because I bought the last LL sold, in 2006, have had the luxury of scouting/hunting tons of the public for decades due to my job traveling the entire state, and get most my travel expenses reimbursed. Otherwise it would be Iowa, due to the conservative management. I wrote off...
No luck with max NR points yesterday. Got a full plate of Western tags this year anyway. With a foot in the door no doubt the outfitters will be demanding more spoon fed welfare soon. Saw my tag is for sale now for $18,000. Playin with house money since drawing NH bull tag in 2012 & scoring...
Shared my points with my buddy’s son and drew regular general elk with 5.33. Glad to burn those and get out of no man’s land. Looking to just stay healthy and have a fun hunt as CO OIL hunt was ruined last year by virus from hell. Will get a flu shot mid-August this year, and not visit grand...
OK I really don’t need to clutter up my garage with another stand if unnecessary. Several have recommended shooting stix so I’ll try that first. Have no mono stix so will look at options.
95% of my hunting the last 30 years has been archery, and I’ve settled in on using only lightweight Lone Wolf climbers the last 10. However, this year I’ve decided to take advantage of the 7 shotgun days & 3 muzzleloader days in Illinois to extend my season. I strictly hunt remote public, much...
Ya and create a maelstrom of blatant corruption along with the destruction of the NAMWC. Sounds like a plan. Utahns love it.

Just one of many, many, many scandals involving auction tags & SFW...
Ya well I guess that’s the risk we all take. The thing was I figured I’d be safe as it was a long 5 weeks scout/hunt so I’d have time in case of illness, unlike a five day rifle hunt. But no my flu struck on the worst day (1st) and held on forever. It was the worst flu of my life, worst than my...
Our group is cashing in at 5.33 hoping that will be enough. I think with the special fee increase failing we will be safe.
I want to go bad this fall after having my 25 point Colorado hunt stolen last year due to a virus from hell. Never again. Flu shot booked for August 15th this time.
Lol I got 8 points and am bailing next year for a general partly due to the task force outfitter welfare chatter. Was a general contractor 20 years and there was no welfare offered in my trade. Why outfitters? Oh ya……….
I burned 25 NR points this year for 61 archery. I’m too cheap to pay an outfitter. But if I were you I’d just do one of the 61 October rifle hunts. That’s what Randy Newburg did a few years ago in that situation. He looked over a lot, and took a fine ~320 bull. I love archery, just not $8k...
Just got hit in Colorado for archery elk unit 61. My plan will be as stated. Head there a week early to scout and stay the entire 4 week season if needed.
Huge relief! Took them until 9:48 pm CST but COPW finally hit my CC for bull elk tag. Just cashed in the first big game point I ever bought, way back in 1996. Will be headed for unit 61 archery. Was nervous as I had all my eggs in this one basket this year.
