    ELK 101: Botched Hunts/Definition of a guide/Outfitters

I feel these posts have gotten way off in the ditch. Originally all I wanted to know was has anyone ever been on a guided hunt where they felt things were intentionally done to make the hunt unsuccessful and if so what. I didn't need comments about DIY. I know all about that. I have done my...

    ELK 101: Botched Hunts/Definition of a guide/Outfitters

sorry indian summer but I don't full agree to that. I would tend to think that no matter how seasoned you are it is always good to keep tabs on your animals unless your hunting a high fence. animals can change their patterns and we all know that. Maybe I am not an elk guide but I don't fully...

    ELK 101: Botched Hunts/Definition of a guide/Outfitters

so just to be clear to everyone. I did do my homework and I called clients of his. The first client that I ever talked to an actually met while I was on a road trip told me about this outfitter and he himself had been traveling from Vermont to NM for the past 10 years or so and spoke highly of...

    ELK 101: Botched Hunts/Definition of a guide/Outfitters

it is pretty sad to even think that some outfitters would decide to treat certain customers differently as a lot of you have mentioned but i guess in deed it is true that it happens. Well not that this outfitter cares i am sure but he has lost a client and i will be sure to express to others who...

    ELK 101: Botched Hunts/Definition of a guide/Outfitters

yes I would say that even during our hunt the conditions were less than favorable and like I have said before I just feel things were more in favor for those who were friends of the wealthy repeat customer. I mean the conditions were the same for everyone so that is what perplexes me.

    ELK 101: Botched Hunts/Definition of a guide/Outfitters

I will say the food was good. The guides did not do any type of pre scouting for our hunts. I think they were going off the prior muzzy hunts and bow hunt. I was told by my guide that they did put out some cameras for the bow hunters so I was curious as to why the didn't do that as a norm...

    ELK 101: Botched Hunts/Definition of a guide/Outfitters

The outfitter owner told us the day we all arrived that they had had a good bow season, a good muzzy season and should be a good rifle season as well. again I understand the external factors but I still think there were other factors that could have been prevented and possibly produced a better...

    ELK 101: Botched Hunts/Definition of a guide/Outfitters

so you are right in that I haven't talked with the outfitter yet but I am working on that now. I wanted to collect all of my thoughts and why I didn't say anything then is because of several reasons. 1. this is his job and I shouldn't have to say anything to him unless I feel that it is to the...

Can anyone recommend an outfitter in Wyoming?

    ELK 101: Botched Hunts/Definition of a guide/Outfitters

So yes and no that it went ok. See I have no other outfitters to compare this one to and when I went last time it was a total different hunt. Meaning it was an archery hunt during the rut so the elk probably made the guide look good because they were answering calls. Now, even then he had some...

    ELK 101: Botched Hunts/Definition of a guide/Outfitters

So just so we all are on the same page I am not a trophy hunter. Yes I would like a good rack so to speak but would be happy with whatever I am presented with especially to fill the freezer. I am aware there are things that cannot be controlled. I have been hunting for more than 30 years so. In...

    ELK 101: Botched Hunts/Definition of a guide/Outfitters

Thanks for the info. For anyone who wants to comment keep in mind that I am not asking about DIY hunts as I know those are probably better in the long run. I am looking into that with a few friends but for now I am analyzing outfitters/guides. I am also looking at different states like Wyoming...

    ELK 101: Botched Hunts/Definition of a guide/Outfitters

Good evening everyone. So I have just returned from my very anticipated 2020 New Mexico rifle elk hunt and to be honest I am extremely disappointed with the overall results as in no Bull harvested. Now before I get into details about why I am so disappointed I wanted to cover a few topics within...

Ways to holster your side arm to bag or self during elk hunt

well not to get to logistic like but if I really had to shoot someone close range with a 300 win mag 180 grain I would probably get some pass thru not only the person but possibly structure as well and that could really involve law and all sorts of things where as if I had my good ol g20 with a...

Satellite Phone for my Elk Hunt?

Now if there is one thing that I take very seriously when hunting no matter how big or small the trip is safety is priority number 1 on my list. So I will be heading to New Mexico next week for a rifle elk hunt and I will be using a guide service that I have used before. now I am sure the guide...

Ways to holster your side arm to bag or self during elk hunt

I may leave the pistol in camp since I will have a rifle and the guide will probably be packing as well but it will be riding along with me in the truck as I travel to and from for personal protection no doubt.

Ways to holster your side arm to bag or self during elk hunt

I know this topic should probably be under gear but since it involves an elk hunt that I am going on I figured what better place. So I have a glock 10mm that I will be taking with me during my elk rifle hunt and I am trying to figure out the best way to adhere it to me or the bag. Your probably...

Looking for hunting property (North Alabama to Tenn Range)

Good morning/afternoon everyone. This is probably a stab in the dark and I know a bit late since it is Sept. 26 but I figured I would try anyways. I live in the morgan county area of North Alabama and I am looking for some hunting land close by maybe as far north as Pulaski Tenn. I currently...
