Hi all and happy 4th of July! My daughter and I have a Wyoming antelope hunt scheduled for next year. I am getting ready to start working up some loads and would like to hear your load recommendations and about your experiences with those loads. We will be zeroed at 200 yards and comfortable...

Favorite map company (paper not digital)

I used MYtopo for a CO muzzy elk hunt. You can create your own topo map. They have different levels, from straight USGS quads to topos with aerial imagery. What's nice is you actually can select your area. In the past, I may have been hunting an area that would require multiple maps to cover...

    Phone vs GPS

I use both. I do put more faith in my garmin. I have a birdseye subscription to download aerial images to my gps. The phone does provide a bigger screen and better imagery for the most part. The down side with the phone (iphone 6) for me is battery life is terrible. Going offline it still...

    On X ?

I purchased a subscription for Wyoming and then wanted to get one for Michigan. I did not need all states. I emailed them to ask if i could add just one more state. I should have waited for their response. I didn't, and created a different account and bought Michigan. The ended up replying...

    Gohunt questions

I just subscribed this year and at this time I am only using for Wyoming mule deer and antelope. I think has been a great time saver. the filtering feature is pretty slick, could use some more options for filtering however. All in all, it has been worth it for me.

    T/C Colorado legal loads

I bought a new TC Pro Hunter for my last CO elk hunt back in 2016. I ended up selling that damn thing. It Did not like spitting any non saboted load I could find. I, for the life of me, could not tune a load for that gun. I talked to a lot of guys who swore by it, but they we shooting...

New rifle for my daughter - Part Deux - more questions

She has been shooting for years, rimfire and my muzzy. This is her first centerfire of here own. I am thinking something in 3x9x40-44 maybe 4x14x40-44. She will be using this for our antelope hunt next, deer and target.

New rifle for my daughter - Part Deux - more questions

Well the quest for the gun is over. We ordered the Tikka T3x Lite Compact in 7mm-08. It should be ready for pick up in about 7 - 10 days. Interesting tid bit, there were only 4 left in the distribution center that my gun shop uses and the caliber will no longer be available in that model. My...

New rifle for my daughter - Part Deux - more questions

No it was not the Tikka compact. That is one of the problems I am having, no body around has them in stock. Williams would charge a fee to order and 15% restocking if I did not take the gun. I get it, they have to make money, but I would like to handle any gun before I buy. So the search...

New rifle for my daughter - Part Deux - more questions

Hi all, I want to thank all that responded to the first part of the rifle quest for my daughter. This is we are now. The caliber we decided on is 7mm-08. We started to researching Tikka, Weatherby, Howa, Savage and Ruger, with a preference for the first three. To recap, my daughter is 5'...

New rifle for my daughter - need recommendations

Man all you guys are great. Some much useful information. My head is swimming fro all of it. I actually made a tally sheet trying to take into account everyone's opinions. I even included those who liked multiple calibers. So here is where I am at right now. The 270 is out, I want her to...

    WYO units 81, 82, 83, 110 - advice / input / comments requested

I myself, will have 8 points for 2019, my daughter will only have 1. So combined 4.5. Long story short, falling out between hunting partners. There are more areas we can draw for, but the units I listed had more accessible public lands, success rates etc. I reality, I am glad for the fall...

New rifle for my daughter - need recommendations

Wow! First I want to thank all of you for your input. I has been great. I think that she may not like the recoil with the 270. It is a great caliber though and versatile. With that said I am now looking at the 25-06, 7mm-08 and the 6.5 Creedmoor. Right now, I think I am leaning heavy towards...

I am putting an antelope hunt for me and my daughter in 2019. I have never hunted in Wyoming it will be so many firsts for us. I can't wait. It will be her high school graduation gift. We narrowed the units to those listed by me splitting my points with her, our love for that part of...

New rifle for my daughter - need recommendations

No surprise, she is in on it. Problem is, so far I have not been able to find anything somewhat local in those calibers in a "compact" stock. I just know that my 30-06, 300wsm are to big for her, she even shoots a youth 22. She has shot my 50 cal muzzy from the bench but that was a little...
