I would start by picking the country you want to hunt: high country/alpine, timber, roads, lower elevation, flats, etc...then look for units.
I've only elk hunted but I've seen whopper mule deer come from plenty of units, many that require 0-2 pts. CO has great mule deer...it will be a blast...
This. E-scout for small pockets of hard to get to terrain that offer cover & water. You can zoom in to see cars/trucks...then match that up with well know trails...find the middle ground.
Also - as stated...e-scout only does so much...I primarily do it to day dream and look for new spots to...
Definitely seems young for that...I had 4 kids under 8 at that age...and luckily had tons of energy and slept 5-6 hours/night.
Now at 46 I'm definitely more tired than any point in life...but I blame much of that on those 4 kids being teenagers - and just peak stress in life...so I'd really...
work days 6:00 (work at 7:00)
hunting days 5:00
Summer time backpack rucks before work 5:00
But I have 4 teenagers in the house...I'm up way too late every night
You don't raise tag prices when you want more bears harvested...you raise them so less guys hunt them, and populations rise leading to more depredation of elk and deer. This means less hunters needed or no hunters.
This follows right along with everything else the Governor is doing to end...
If wanting archery I would budget more than 1 hunt/season on doing this...but it's doable...even DIY public land.
If you want to just hunt once and be done - a top rifle outfitter hunt is probably the only way to go.
Be careful...once I put my 300" bull on the wall...it's a reminder everyday...
Buy it.
I made one trip to the BWCA in '22 with my son and trying to get back this summer. I loved it way more than I anticipated. Canoe travel/camping is awesome. I will just have to rent one again this summer if we go.
Would love to find a way to incorporate into a canoe hunt...to sneak...
If he has done this then great...otherwise I would never recommend 2 guys planning for a 7mile packout of a bull elk (2 trips minimum depending on camp).
Good Luck!
I've never worried about FOC. I start with broadhead I like...then work the the arrow back from there...since 100gr heads are so prevalent I've always shot them. You could get 260 and 300 to fly good out of most bows with a little tinkering.
I have 70lb bow, 300 arrows, 100gr head with 50gr...
Depends what you want. I like the idea of LPP tags if possible.
But with a family I'd highly recommend having water on the property.
We have 2 small parcels of hunting ground - which has been great to get my kids their first deer on...but the majority of our memories are on the 8 acre lake we...
