Salomon Quest 4d gtx Comparable Fit

I love my Quest 4D GTXs, they fit me like a glove....but I get one season out of them before I start getting leaks. I put a lot of miles on them during that season, but do not think enough to wear through the gor-tex. I run the Lowa boots which fit a little bit different, but they last longer. I...

    Best Binocular Harness/Case

I have tried many of the harnesses out there and my favorite is the Kuiu. I backpack hunt and horseback hunt. The harness protects the glass and keeps it from bouncing when on horseback. I like how adjustable it is as well. Hope that helps.

Late October Idaho Elk Hun: Clothing Recommendations

Under layer tops: Firstlite. I have about 6 tops of different thickness, including the Sawtooth top. The rest is Kuiu, Attack pants, Guide jacket, 210 merino zip-off thermals, the Superdown jacket. I carry a set of FL rain gear in my pack. I wear Darn tough socks and some Kuiu socks. I wear...

Kuiu pants for idaho general deer season?

I love the attacks. They are outstanding! I bought solids after such great experiences with them so that I can wear them all the time. I spend most of October in the Idaho mountains.

    Merino boxers

I have had 5 pair of various FL wool underwear. I wore a hole in all of them with minimal hiking. I sent them back to FL and they replaced them. Shortly there after, those also wore holes in the crotch. I have a pair of Smartwool, they have not shown any sign of wear. Now I will only buy...

Eberlestock Dragonfly vs MR pop up 28

I used the Pop up 18 last year for elk. I went in for 3 days. It is a great pack! I packed in my camp and then took the load lifters down and used it as a day pack. Very low profile and great in-between the trees. I hauled out elk quarters with it as well. The 28 is even bigger! The load shelf...

Mystery Ranch pop up's any good?

I bought and used the pop up 18 for deer and elk this year. I used it as a day pack and several days on a horse. I loved it. I kept rain gear, down jacket, kill kit and food in it. I hauled elk quarters in it as well. I was very comfortable to use and never felt it pulling on my shoulders. I...

    Faster Water Filtration

I agree. I have had several MSRs, the Katadyn is at least twice as fast.

    Which Pair of Lowas

The Hunters are my favorite boot for side hilling and off trail hiking/hunting. Too stiff for just casual hiking, but more than that they are great.

    gloves

I only have the grizzlies and yes, they have the wrist strap. Great feature that I have used a lot! Mostly, I use the Kuiu guide glove with merino liner. When it gets cold, grizzly!

    How much meat is ethical?

absolutely! I take rib meat, neck meat, every bit of meat I can take, I do! A lot of it goes to grind, but my kids love it! One or two extra trips hauling out meat, yes it is worth it. I have not bought red meat in 23 years, just hunted for it and my kids now do the same. If you are not willing...

    Boot ideas

I use the Salomons for general hunting in the mountains, then when I have to pack heavy, Lowa Hunter GTX or Kenetrek. I have the same thing happen, when I am hunting, the Salomons are outstanding, then if I start hauling meat or carry a very heavy pack, my feet and arches start to hurt. With...

    gloves

The FL grizzly gloves are very warm and what I really like is that they have wrist straps on then and when you need to take your glove off fast you won't lose it. It hangs off of your wrist. There are also mittens at Cabelas that all you do is pull the finger tip portion off and it flips back...

    How much meat is ethical?

All of it. No acceptable meat to leave behind. You took the animal's life, you owe it to take all the meat!

    Super warm gloves

Firstlite Grizzly. I have worn them in single digits and been warm. Too hot to hike in, but I pack them and use them at camp or when on horseback in the mornings or evenings. They have help up very well so far.

Lightweight Hip boot/over boot wader for creek crossings

I have used heavy duty large trash bags, stash them on the opposite side the crossing and use them on the way back across and then as a trash bag! I used the expensive thick ones and they did not leak. Just a thought depending on how sharp the rocks are and deep the water is.
