Agree. Way, way too many millenial and gen z "influencers" taking some very big bucks and plastering the experiences across instagram and youtube.
That said, I think there will be differences between them and how Boomers hunt. Many of them are first-gen hunters, with grandparents or even...
Both will outshoot all but a tiny percentage of shooters, but you question might be answered in digging around to find out which one has the better aftermarket support, accessories, etc.
There's things balancing this out to some degree - I don't disagree that tech can make a hunt easier, but on balance hunts are also a lot harder just because of reduced opportunity and increased pressure.
In 1960 - right around the time "the good ol' days" seem to have starting coming to an...
Dry fire. Extensively. 10x over live ammo practice, minimum.
If you can't pull the trigger without your crosshairs moving when dry firing, you won't be able to do it with ammo, flinching, and recoil anticipation added to it.
Start by dry-firing prone, with the rifle rested over something...
Two things I'd recommend:
1) Make reservations at Old Ebbitt Grill - it's just a couple of blocks from the White House, and contains a substantial portion of Teddy Roosevelt's big game trophy room. There are some absolutely amazing mounts in there, especially given how old they are. It's a...
That's a great looking rifle/stock. Particularly appreciate how close the grip is to the trigger, too. Great design work. Some of the concepts in it could have had it turn out pretty ugly, but the final lines look awesome.
The way that light is interacting is very interesting. I'd start with sanding that frame though - minimize the friction surface, before adding additional resistance for the energy of the shot to have to overcome with a heavier recoil spring.
OP, the tighter screw torque is changing the geometry of the polymer frame, applying friction to the slide assembly. That will suck energy out of the moving parts. A heavier recoil spring would only make that problem significantly worse. The best options are to stick with surefire's torque...
OP, the only thing I might add to what others have suggested, is to find the right questions before trying to find the right answers. It's a satisfying thought exercise if nothing else.
A couple that come to mind...
Are you trying to have an overall lightest possible hunt setup, or are...
I'm not trying to be abrasive here, but this is simply not true. At all.
I could tell you all the ways it's not true, whether through imperfectly machined parts to tolerance stacking to improperly fitted parts.
But the easiest way for you to discover this yourself is to simply put dykem...
When retailers don't have something on AmmoSeek.com, there are usually at least a couple of people selling stuff on gunbroker that you can't find anywhere else.
There are a number of good ones and a few great ones. @cal30_sniper mentioned some above, all of which are at a quality level you shouldn't have to worry about - almost all the ones he mentions are premium, including Zev, V-Seven, and 2A Armament. 2A Armament was my preferred to build on, but...
I can't remember who it was on here, but the other day they said something to the effect of "Increased recoil reveals deficiencies in shooting techniques." That really stuck with me, and reminds me of what you're saying you do with your Christensen Mesa.
I'm going to be slightly contrarian here, and put choosing a quality upper at the top of the list, or at least the first part I'd start considering. Everything said above about importance of barrel, bolt, optic, etc is right on the money, so no disagreement with all that. But the importance of...
