Load hauling day packs for short hunters

I think I'm about the same height as you and I use a Kuiu 22" frame. I have a 3600 and 5200 bag for it. It works great for me and I can easily shoot my bow with it on.

    Arrow setup question

My preference has always been to use 100 grain points and heads and add a little weight with the insert if desired. I guess my reason is simply that 100 grains is a little more common but that's not much of an issue these days with wide availability of 125 grain heads. I think it comes down to...

    Cheap Stuff that Works

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N51JXWZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_7BJvFbDXH1AVD This terra hiker tarp has been a versatile item for me. Ground sheet for my floorless shelter, put it under my inflatable glassing pad for puncture protection or use it folded up as a stand alone glassing pad, cover for my...

Fall Idaho bear or Utah archery Elk for first week of September?

I should add that I can get friends to help me pack out if needed so that isn't a big concern.

Fall Idaho bear or Utah archery Elk for first week of September?

I will be moving to northern Utah close to the Idaho border late this summer. I have an opening to hunt the entire first week of September. When I went to buy an Idaho deer tag I found out that they had sold out just the day before. So now I'm trying to decide what the best plan B would be. Fall...

WTB Sitka bino bivy 8x-10x open country

Thanks for that. I do watch camofire and I'll check out huntoftheday. The bino bivy is discontinued so it doesn't seem to be available from many retailers (at least not without paying full retail)

    Backcountry Beverage Vessel?

I use a 17 oz. Microlite thermos from REI. I drink my hot liquid and drink mixes from it. I can also use it with my steri pen if I want to quickly grab some water from a creek. It's almost as light as any plastic nalgene and it has a leak proof lid with a really nice lip for drinking from.

    Stove recommendations for backcountry hunt

I also went the cheap route with a $17 dollar stove from camofire (it has it's own pushbutton igniter so its supper easy to light) and a $12 1 liter kettle from campsaver. It's actually a lighter and more compact setup than a jetboil and I use the kettle to steripen my water as well. I can...

Which inreach is right for me?

Thanks for those replies. Where I'm coming from is that the SE+ is actually cheaper for me. So I guess my question is, are there any downsides to it other than size and weight? I have heard that the SE does not pair with the Instinct is that true? I wouldn't use my watch for the messaging part...

    Garmin Instinct watch

While this thread is back up top I'll add my praise of this watch too. The arial imagery on the explore app is really good and having all your waypoints from the app saved to a tiny device on your wrist is very convenient for navigating in the backcountry. You can just glance down and see which...

Which inreach is right for me?

I currently use my phone with onX maps and the Garmin Explore app for my topo and arial view maps for planning hunts and marking waypoints. I then use my Garmin instinct watch synced to my Explore app for almost all of my navigation and refer to the maps on my phone when I need to. So here's the...
