My first moose. He was shot in the Yukon in 2012 with a 300 Win Mag and 200 grain Barnes TSX using 75.0 g of H4831SC powder. He measured 61 3/4" and scored 224 4/8 B & C points.
These are the type of hunters that outfitters hate to have on a hunt. "My knee hurts. Where are the horses? Today there's fog. I'm sick. No, I'm sick. I got bucked off. Let's take the horse thru this bog; it looks good to me. I'll carry my bow for 20 days but never use it. It looks good...
These guys don't realize how lucky they are to be hunting in the Yukon. That is a "Life-time trip" for most of us. Yet, they never smile or act like lthey're enjoying any part of it. I see people at my work who act happier. What's the problem guys? You are on a 27 day guided hunt. Come...
I watch to see Chris Keefer lose it whenever anything, and I mean anything, goes wrong-weather, horses, mud, game animals. Anything that doesn't go his way and the "bleeps" start coming.
What's with all the other people on the hunt? Last night there was a girl helping pack the horses with a different guide. I don't believe they even mentioned who they were. I also saw a different person in the background helping with the horses. This is not quite a difficult hunt.
Here is how I did my dream hunt in the Yukon for moose grizzly and caribou. I sent the outfitter $750/month for 24 months and the hunt was paid for! I'm just a school teacher making average $$ but I was able to do it. You can too!!
I've already been on my dream hunt. It was in the Yukon for Dall sheep. Once I shot my sheep, I was filled with thankfulness and I will remember it for the rest of my life.
You should have the best raingear you can afford on a hunt like this. If you do, you shouldn't get wet. Your sleeping bag must be kept dry. If you sleep well, you can hunt well.
I thoroughly enjoyed Dropped Project Alaska but the new Dropped Project Yukon leaves much to be desired. It is a fully outfitted guided hunt. By law, the guide must look out for you, make sure you're safe and have enough food for the trip. That wasn't the case in the first Dropped series...
An 8 man Kifaru is just great for 2 guys, gear and firewood. I used one in the Brooks Range in 2009 and it was invaluable. High winds and snow and we were comfy inside with the medium size stove. If you're going lightweight, Kifaru or Titanium Goat make great tipis.
