It would depend on where you live, I typically go for the harder to draw elk/deer units as I have a general unit close by to where I live so even when I don't get lucky with a premium unit I am able to hunt nearby to where I live. Antelope I usually do a more middle of the road plan with a draw...
Shot mine with the 127 LRX out of a 6.5 Wby RPM, (simlar to 6.5 PRC) at 375 yards and dropped without taking a single step. I would just shoot whatever you feel most comfortable with in your setup, shot distance could be long for late season. The 375 yard shot this year was the closest shot...
I haven't done a ton of stream crossings where I couldn't rock hop across. The one I have done I went over the top of the boots and water came down through the top, but that isn't the boots fault. I have worn them in a few rainstorms and in a few inches of snow, they seem to be relatively...
Update on the Vivo Tracker Esc's. So far since getting them I have somewhere around 200 miles of hiking in them, split between day hiking, upland bird hunting, a week long elk hunt, a few days of antelope and some mule deer hunting. All the hiking has been here in Wyoming ranging from river...
I only looked at the 12 in the store compared to the 20, but looks very similar, they feel close to the same, the 12 is slightly heavier (9 oz. from the website) but still feels quite light. I think the barrel is 2 inches longer as well. Depending on how well I like it when out hunting, and how...
Thanks for all the responses everyone, I ended up picking up the 20 ga. I figured it would be a great gun to use myself and would work out great for my wife and daughter to use when they do come along. Hope to get it out shooting here soon.
Thanks for the response, how do you like the fiber optic pin on it, I have never used a shotgun with anything other than a brass bead.
Also have you tried the shims to adjust the cast and drop, does it work well or not make much of a difference?
I have been looking at a new shotgun for a while now and the Affinity 3 elite upland has caught my eye. A local shop has both a 12 and 20 gauge in stock, for a decent price, and I have quite a bit of store credit to use there.
What's everyone's thought on what gauge to get, mainly hunting...
I use the FL base layers just about all season and they are my go to for that. As mentioned previously Kings makes some good stuff, I have both kings and FL pants and find myself grabbing the Kings 9 times out of 10, just like the fit and feel of them better. Both brands of pants have held up...
I didn't get the leather treatment as well, just like you said if you loosen them up on the ankle a bit it doesn't press on the ankle bone as much. Only time so far that I wish I had tightened them a bit more is some steep downhill but other than that slightly loose feels great.
Between the two I have shot, (240 and 325) and the few other hunts I have been on (120, 270, and 390) Seems that on each we could get to a natural feature and after that it got tough to get closer.
I was in the same situation when I moved to WY, gained resident status a few weeks after the resident draw application period closed so hunted with a NR tag I drew. I ended up deciding not to hunt the Wilderness area mainly due to there being good non-wilderness areas to hunt in the unit that it...
I use one and like it mainly because I like the feeling of the liner better than the bag material itself and sleep much more comfortably without the bag sticking to me all night.
Sized it to fit a full box of 12 ga shells and have them sit deep in the pocket to keep from loosing any.
Added a nice easy flap lid with webbing and a buckle to keep closed, I wanted to be able to tuck the lid into the pocket when hunting to allow for quick and easy access to shells, but...
Started working on making a upland strap vest, ordered some 1000D Cordura from RipStop along with some webbing and buckles. Decided I should start small with the project and started with making a pouch for the belt to hold shells.
I have been looking around at upland strap vests for awhile now and realized that since I already have a few old hip belts and shoulder straps around from old packs that it may not be that difficult to make one.
Has anyone done this before or have any ideas on it? Been looking at the wing...
Third bull of the week for our group, all three of us tagged out with our first bull for all of us. Was a great trip, all tagged out on the last day of archery and finished the pack our the morning rifle opened up.
