Looking for some more reviews on the Maven RS2. Thought I'd resurrect this thread from a while ago and see if anyone has experience with this scope that they can add.
I'm looking to scope a 300 wsm and plan to shoot out to around 600 yds max. Normal use would be brushy country and 300 yards and...
I've got the razor HD 27x48x65mm and think its a very good spotter (had it for 3 seasons now). I bought it over the 85mm for the weight savings. There have been a few times where I needed more magnification so I put on my phoneskope and used the zoom on the camera for the extra magnification...
Normally just 1 Nalgene for me. I carry one 32 oz Nalgene on my belt and a 1L platypus bag that I keep in my pack when I know water will be scarce.
Usually have an empty 4L or 6L MSR dromlite bag that is filled once in camp (if I'll be there a while) and emptied out before going back in the pack.
I've used a thermacell in many floorless shelters and tarp setups, never thought it was a bad idea. I don't usually let it burn the entire time I'm in the tent, only have it on for a couple hours at a time clear the area.
I'm running the slik624 and outdoorsmans micro pan head. Use it to glass with a 65mm spotter, 15x56, and 10x binos. The tripod is a little short for me to glass with a straight spotter while standing up (I'm 6'2") but works fine with the angled spotter that I'm running currently. I rarely glass...
I always bring a tarp along. Kifaru sheep tarp when I'm backpacking or a larger 10'x10' silnylon tarp when on an ATV. I like to set them up to get out of the elements when I'm glassing for a long period of time and also its great to know that I've got a decent tarp for shelter if I decide to...
I like some mid-weight merino bottoms under my waders when hunting. I will usually also bring a light pair of fleece pants to wear over my merino bottoms if the temps drop too much or if I don't plan on moving much throughout the day. On normal days, with a lot of ground covered, I only put on...
For me it depends on the hunt area and type of hunting that I plan to do. When hunting interior Alaska's vast open country I always bring one. When I hunt the brushy country in south central I rarely bring it along, but will if there are some decent high vantage points to glass from.
I like to...
I’ve taken moose with several different calibers, the smallest being a 270 wsm with 150 grain TSX that had no problem with getting the job done. Good shot placement is important with a smaller bullet but I’ve found that moose aren’t very hard to kill.
.30 cal 165 grain bullet Would be plenty...
I have used a "trekking pole jack (extension)" from bearpaw wilderness designs. It is a short section of carbon fiber tube that you would use along with one trekking pole. I forget the length of carbon fiber extension that I bought for my SL5, but I think it was around 16".
This is a good...
