I’ve killed a pile of elk, I’d still hire an outfitter for a great tag. I’ve done this long enough that I’m not going to bumble through trying to figure out how the roads, drainages, etc work on limited time in a place that I probably won’t get to hunt again.
Just depends on the unit, 12 is glassable, 10 not so much for example. Water is a big deal, but if the monsoons hit it’ll change everything. Too much water actually makes it harder as the elk get super spread out.

I’ve killed 20 animals conservatively with ELDMs over the last 7 years, they work just as good as a Berger or better in my experience.
The 277 is pointless as a caliber (most are) there’s nothing that it does better than a 6.5 or 7. The 6.8 western is the dildo with a lazer beam of cartridges...
