Yeah thanks. I read the manual too and didn't see where it mentioned anything about freezing either. Thanks for the responses guys.

Hey thanks I appreciate the info. It's my dad and I first trip into the backcountry this year. And he has already bought the Vario. Thanks for the sleeping bag trick because most likely if it's not going to be freezing weather it's gonna be dang close.

The bullet grazed his head before hitting him in the shoulder. The gash actually wasn't as big but spread open a bit when they were mounting it.

Yeah I never intended on leaving trash. My main concern was whether it's ok to burn some of the plastic or not? And yes I always pick up others trash when I'm in the woods:)

I hear Aron Snyder talk about the sawyer (I believe) water filters. And even though they are convenient, you have to be careful in freezing weather or the filter will crack. Does anyone know if the katadyn Vario filter has the same issue with freezing?

During 2014 deer season my dad shot his first mt lion. I shared the photo shortly after that, but I though of share the pic again and the pics of the mount since he just got it back.

What do you all do with your trash in the backcountry? Burn what you can and carry the rest out? Or not burn any plastic (ziplocks, wrappers, etc...) and carry everything out?

I have experienced the same problem with my universal phoneskope adaptor on my leupold spotter. The little arms that clamp to the eyepiece barely are holding onto the eyepiece once proper eye relief is achieved. Are you using the adaptor made for the spotter or the universal one?
I have a g19 in mine and am able to zip up my 10x42 leupolds in the front pocket. Not sure of the size difference between the two binos. Also have room for my wind checker and a few more small items in there. It's kinda a tight fit but it works.
