I drew my buck tag in the NS, so that sort of decided where I would go. A buddy is getting up in elk points so we may start hunting the areas he wants to possibly draw for elk. Scout for his future LE tag and fill freezers. This year is sort of my get out of COVID lockdown and see what I can...
I will be out there archery hunting. I have friends who say the South slope is packed with people and then you have a lot more private and Indian land to deal with. They have actually moved to different units because of people. I'm just learning the state and trying to leverage areas that might...
No I don't fly them, I used to fix them when I was in the USAF. One area I found had no cattle around that I could see. It also had a lot of aspen, so I think I will focus on that area. I have a plan to cover a lot of ground. But there is A LOT of ground up there. LOL So I'm just trying to...
Sled, Thanks! Everything you have posted is a huge help in my decision process. I will do some e scouting on the places I found and start to put together a game plan. Thanks again for the help!
I have found mixed information about that. Some say its no big deal and others say on FS land that elk and deer avoid them. I found deer tracks along with cow tracks up there. But no elk tracks at all.
Appreciate the response. I have spent many hours searching on this subject on here and the web. Maybe I'm not using the right search question? But there seems to be a lot more about how far to go out or what general area to go to. A lot of general season stuff. I have areas I plan to go to and...
Looking for a little help, not spots. Moved to Utah from Alaska last year and this is my first year hunting the state. I have an archery buck and elk tag. I have spent some time up on the North Slope looking for places to hike in from the road. From what I have seen I can either jump on the...
KClark, i have watched that video three times already! Lol great video! If you dont mind me asking what camera did you use for that? Thanks for the inspiration!
Jimbob, I used to rent a sat phone. But i bought the inreach a few years ago. Now i take it with me everywhere i go in the wilderness. They are great and a lot cheaper for sure!
Snyd, thanks! Confirmed all my fears! Lol i have luckily never had anything really bad happen yet. But Im super cautious already. No animal is worth me leaving the wife and kids for. I might check into the AOD forums, thanks.
I will be hiking in, i wish i could train in the same area i am hunting. But its hours away, im up in Fairbanks. So im going to hit some hills this summer. I have already been doing the workout thing. So i should be ready physically. Yeah the wife was the deciding factor last year. Im hoping she...
I know the area pretty well, i have hunted the area about 4 times before. But i dont want to hand out a lot of detail. Its your typical AK dall sheep hunt. Im more looking for what things others have experienced going solo. Any pitfalls i should be watching for.
So last year I skipped sheep hunting because of the solo issue, nobody to go with. I had a few partners lined up for this year but it looks like they wont be able to go. That being said I'm wrestling with the solo idea again. Any inputs, pros & cons from those of you who have gone solo would be...
Awesome thanks. So length is 48" and then since i am buying from RSBTR I go 32.5 from the inside edge!!! Sorry to be a pain in the arse!! I really appreciate it!!!
Sorry not sure why the pic didn't come through. In order to make sure things match up what I am looking for is how far from the edge is that point? Is it centered on the fabric width? Or is it offset something like 30 inches from the edge? Im just worried if I don't get that right the end will...
