Long ago, before I knew much about guns, I ordered a shotgun from a local that did transfers out of his house. I get a call that the shotgun had arrived, so I make the trip over to his house. In the finished out basement were more rifles and sheep mounts than I had ever seen in one place. Most of the rifles were "sheep guns" and the most common caliber by far was 25-06. I have never warmed up to this caliber, but I do know from personal experience that the 270 and -06 are more than up to the job for sheep and mountain goats.
I don't think you would get any arguments there. Its just the other critters that roam in sheep land (especially in AK) that push me to bigger pills... : )

+1,, My friend shot this Grizz with a 257 Roberts, but I had to bat clean-up with my 325WSM to anchor it on a sheep hunt.

This old bear wanted to have the ram my Son and I had just packed for 2 days for dinner. My Kimber MA, 30-06 ended those thoughts.

I'm surprised not one vote for a 6.5-284, must be because it's on a long action? When I get my 338 I'm changing my custom over to that for my lightweight high buck rifle. I imagine it would be just as effective on sheep.

No. It's a standard ultra light. It was the stainless barrel blued receiver older model. I scratched the stock up a bit on prior hunts and sent it to BC for repainting.

My father shot a few rams with his .243 with 100 grain partitions.

I have knocked over two with a .300 win and another with .300 wby.

Sako Finnlite 75 270 wsm. Shoots great, not as light as it could be but I'm fine with that. It's always performed flawlessly.
