I have digiscoped a lot of subjects.
Yard birds.
Woodpeckers.
Eagles.
Hawks.
Wild turkeys.
Tons and tons of Mule deer.
Elk.
Moose.
Owls.
Mountain goats.
Bighorn sheep.
Coyotes.
Rabbits.
Bison.
Sage grouse.
Shed antlers.
You name it, I have pretty much digiscoped it.

But, in all of my experience, I have yet to find a subject as difficult to digiscope as Columbian Sharp tailed grouse.

I have been trying to get a perfect picture of a male Sharpie on a LEK, bent over, wings out, eye brow feathers flared, purple throat patch exposed, in good sunlight, and in the open.

It has been a nightmare.

I made a little video this morning that highlights the difficulty with digiscoping these little grouse.

I figure that many of you who digiscope will appreciate what this video has to show about the difficulty of getting the subject in frame, focused, and the exposure correct, then getting a shot off at the perfect moment.

The video is fairly decent if you turn the quality up to one of the HD settings. It will play in 720 or 1080p.

I have been up three times this week, trying to get my shot. Tomorrow is another day. Hopefully I will have some sun to work with.
