So Rokslide has some great giveaways and its great that a bunch of mfgs./ business's have donated product to give away. What I don't like is the procedure involved to enter the drawings. I hate facebook even though I'm on it. I 'm not going to "like" anything until I've tried it. What purpose does posting my favorite animal have really? Why can't I just subscribe to the thread/blog just like I do when I'm interested in anything else on the site and be entered that way. I like simplicity and haven't entered one giveaway yet on the site....let's make it simple guys. There has to be a better way to do these.

I think that the reason the they do the Facebook deal is to get more people to look at the manufacturer a little closer than just being a sponsor to rokslide.just my 2 cents

I'm not inclined to raise much of a fuss about this, because it is free stuff we're talking about here...but I do not have a Facebook page (nor do I have any interest in having one) and am therefore ineligible for the giveaways.

Just the way the business model works. The more popular you are on FB, the more your website shows up on Google and other search engines thus more people are directed to said website thus they get better stats/views and can get more money from sponsors to keep the website going and make a profit (hopefully). I don't like it much either but FB is a big part of the way our society/businesses work/advertise.

These giveaways are designed to promote the companies and draw business. Facebook is a huge advertising boost to these companies who are so generously giving away free stuff. It baffles me that folks have the nerve to complain that something is being given away in a fashion that they don't like. If you don't like it then don't take part, it really is that simple. If you are not willing to help promote and expand these companies in the fashion they see fit on their own terms then you don't deserve to win their gear. Also Rokslide just gave away 2 badlands 2200 without facebook and what about the push up contest, plenty of opportunity there.

Not having a dig, but anyone that is involved in hunting or this forum for the sake of getting free gear are probably involved for the wrong reasons.

I'm just wondering on an overall basis, for outdoor people/hunters.........what percentage of them overall even have a FB account. I'm sure most of the younger crowd is on it.......you know, this generations desire to tell the world EVERYTHING that they're doing. But I'd be willing to bet that a large % of actual hunters don't have, nor care to have a FB account. So I guess it all comes down to WHO these companies are targeting. That's Marketing 101.......who's your target audience? On the other hand, a lot of the older hunters are so set in their ways that they aren't willing to change what they're using to start with. So having said that.........use whatever works for the companies. I'll keep buying my gear.

No Facebook here and never entered a drawing either. At the end of the day it's an attempt to grow rokslide or the company offering the giveaway the only way they know how which is through social media. Can't really fault them for that. Subscribing to a thread through a forum that you are already a member of does not accomplish that goal.

I'm not a member of Faceplant and won't be joining Faceplant just to be able to enter a contest. Will not say I like or dislike something if I have never tried it.

64 here and have become more of a high tech redneck than ever thought i would, but have drawn the line for things like facebook/twitter and the like. the concept and some of the experiences of others has kept me away. who doesnt like to play a game of chance and really I feel left out, like a second class citizen . If anyone has plans for a class action lawsuit, count me in. If a guy at the ballpark can sue espn for disparaging him for taking a nap, think us non- fbers have a good shot for a really big prize....

Lol....now that's funny.
Keep in mind this is the " feedback" forum and I posted as such! I will not be entering any giveaways either as I stated earlier and I'm not a complainer just wanted to give my opinion in this socially/ business motivated era we live in.

Facebook is one of the best ways for companies to advertise period. And there are a lot of hunters on Facebook.

Keep in mind this is a free forum and the giveaway is added marketing for the sponsors, they are not giving these products just because. I don't have Facebook and therefore cannot win a prize but hey that is my choice, only thing holding me back from being entered is myself.

This is the generation of Facebook, twitter, selfies, yada yada. Yes I am part of this generation and do agree at times it is a bit over the top. However life is about adapting or be passed up by somebody who will.

With regards to the Facebook likes it has everything to do with exposure and marketing. By giving away a piece of gear and gaining several hundred likes or shares they can get a lot of exposure for relatively free.

As a free society you have the choice to join Facebook or what not, but on the same vein the companies have the right to dictate which hoops you jump through to win their free product. It is a dual advertisement for both Rokslide and the product manufacturer trying to get increased exposure via Facebook likes/shares.

The only thing that bugs me is when you have to like and share and do multiple steps and there is never any confirmation that you did it correctly and are entered. I am never on Farkbook but I understand how companies use it and I don't mind "liking" promotions that essentially spreads the message. I don't think I have actually posted anything on there in years. To me, if you want to enter contests, just setup an account and use it to enter contests. It's not like you have to go out and get 5000 "friends" and constantly post on there to win.

Some of you guys shock me. This thread and a few others on the subject show me the nerve some people have. I let a lot things slide, but I won't let this foolish thread be one of them.

Let me start with this: I think it was Henry Ford that said "nothing happens until someone sells something". Never more true.

Rokslide exists (and btw the way is just your form of preferred social media so very hypocritic to say your form is better than the big dog FB) because we help people sell things. I make no apology for that. If it weren't for Aron Snyder's and David Long's ability to attract sponsors, you whiners would still be on all those sites that you come on here to complain about (who btw sell stuff, too).

We've invested thousands of hours of our lives to bring you Rokslide. Our sponsors have done the same and put their money where their mouths are to make this thing fly. Find another site of similar size that puts more gear in your hand for a tiny investment of your time and attention. If you're too stupid to see that FB helps us reach thousands of additional people or you just hate the fact that America is a capitalist country, then you really shouldn't be part of any contest we run.
As mentioned, we've done many contests that require nothing more than being a member (look at our Membership drive from last year, ((oh yea, a few of you complained about that too!)) and the other giveaways we've done.) I've got several giveaways coming up that don't require FB for one reason or another. However, most will require it so quit your complaining or for my peace of mind, find another website. Our Rokslide pushup contest had like $2000 in prizes! (Oh no, some of you can't do pushups????) Sounds like a bunch of socialist whiners when I hear this crap.

Workx53, there is NOT a better way and don't go into any business that relies on reaching the public or you will have to bow to the evil alter of FB
Live2hunt, baffles me beyond belief, too!
5miles, there are thousands and thousands of hunters on FB and is why virtually the entire hunt industry is on there.

Those who won't like something they haven't tried, no problem, don't enter the contests!!!!! I'm a thinking person and I can visit a sponsor's FB and make an educated decision to like or not. I'm not asking you to marry them!

Colonel, I bust my south end to make sure every contest I run is done right as far as entries. The average givaway on the blog takes me 6-10 hours!!!!!!!!!!! I count every like and share that I can find (manually btw) on both the Rokslide and participating sponsor site. Very time consuming but I promise it is run as a fair as possible. If you follow the rules EXACXTLY, you will be entered.

Many of you would be shocked at how good the odds are on these giveaways because people simply don't follow the rules. Wow, just like any contest in the world, you have to follow their rules.?!?!

For you socialist-minded complainers, I'm sure there's a boat heading to Cuba- get on it or quit coming on here and bashing our business model. Just the fact that you're on social media (Rokslide is social media) complaining about social media shows I've probably got my blood pressure to high over this, but I'm sick of it. Post publicly on this if you're going to debate me. I don't need your passive agressive PMs clogging my inbox. I've got gear to sell or Rokslide won't be here.

Robby just send the complainers a bill for server space, tell them congrats you won!

For you socialist-minded complainers, I'm sure there's a boat heading to Cuba-

That's funny. If you don't like FB you're a socialist. And if you voice your opinion you're a socialist. Doesn't that sound a little backward? Kind of a double edged sword here........some don't like your business model and you don't like some people's opinions about that. People have opinions and I think that's good in life. We don't all have to like or dislike the same things, kind of ironic seeing how FB seems to be all about "likes". We don't have to like opinions, but we should all be able to accept them as such and move on.

Robby, you guys run a great website........keep it up. It's YOUR business.......run it however you like, until the liberals mandate it otherwise. "Don't let the bastards get you down."
