Last year I built a 6.5-06 AI on a Tikka action and it turned out awesome. Now I'm starting a similar build for my brother.

He had a gunsmith in sodak chamber and install the barrel, then sent all the parts to me to finish.

Getting the bottom metal rough fitted.

Initial fit after I opened up the barrel channel.

Final pre bed fitting.

When the pillars and bedding material get here, I will finish that part and then start finishing the outside of the stock. Then it's time to mount the scope and start fire forming brass.

Looks really awesome! I'm with Shrek who made the barrel, what's the length, who fluted it? I wonder what that beast will weigh when finished?

It's a 1:8 twist #4 Benchmark barrel I believe. The fluting is factory. It's finished at 27". I can't remember which bedding kit I told him to order. (it hasn't arrived here yet)

As for the weight. I think it'll be under 10 lbs with a scope.

My rifle has a #5 Brux barrel finished at 26" and it weighs 9lb 8.9 oz with optics.

Damn it. Finding a used Tikka action for me to start a build is nearly impossible.... someone has to have a Tikka with a bent barrel that wants to sell!!!!!!

Looking good Justin! Thanks for posting some more motivation for me.

Justin , what stock is that on your rifle ? Is it customized by you ? It kind of looks like a couple of commercial stocks but not quite. It looks to be about as light as you could get a laminated thumbhole stock. Very nice.

Looks really good. Are you only doing the the front and rear of the action or are you doing the whole action in two steps ?

Nice work. I've got a 6.5-06 build underway as well. I'm using a savage action choate stock and mcgowen barrel as the platform for my build.

I've only used it a few times so far. It is easy to set up and seems to be accurate. It comes in a very nice padded case too.

Holy chit, that's a cruise missile, nothing's gonna touch it. 36" drop / 12" drift at 500 is sick. Are you necking up 25-06, necking down 270, or what?
