Wanted to get opinions if any on 7x42 vs 8x42 for binocular use in timber? Does anyone prefer one over the other and why besides the obvious gain in FOV using the 7x. I have found a hell of a deal on 7x42 Nikon EDG II bino's but wanted to see if beyond a lil magnification loss there are any further shortcomings to the 7x especially when using in timber to locate animals. Thanks guys

For timber uses which tends to be low or muted light, the 7x42's will work better. The 'exit pupil' is 6 as opposed to the 8x42 which is 5.4. Th higher number, 6mm, will allow in more light that 4.2mm. If you could look through both at sunup or sundown, you'd see a marked difference in the amount of available light.
So a higher exit pupil trumps the negligible loss of "one power". Good luck.
