Yeah I'm really tempted to see if I can get it to stabilize out of a 1:10 twist. Guys have seen good results with the Matrix 165 and 175 out of a 1:10.

Wow, thats a nice BC.. Wonder how fast you could get it going with a 26 nosler case necked up. That would be one long range slayer....

I'm definitely gonna try them in the 270 WSM but I'm afraid there's not enough space in the case - just have to see about the 1:10, stranger things have happened

I'll be testing these in my 1:10 twist 270 win. Hope to post my finding by the end of the month or early March. If they do not stabilize I should know that in the near future.

Something I have notice, the Nosler LRAB 150gr and Matrix 165gr are both 1.43" long and the 170gr Berger is 1.49". Not sure if that extra .06" is the tipping point in stability.

I have a box to try in my .270 WSM when I get it back. I had it originally built on a short action and that was a mistake. It will be coming back on a long action. It shoots the 165 Matrix pretty good so I'm excited to see how the Berger does.

Just looked up the specs and its calling for a 1:8... Be interesting to see if you can get them to stabalize...

Good question, I would be surprised if it hits 2800 in a standard .270 win. I think the WSM can hit 3000-3100 in some rifles.

In rifles with an extended box or long action bdl bottom possibly. A standard short action I highly doubt unless it is a single shot. Without getting a custom gun built I don't see the throat being long enough to utilize full cartridge capacity. I honestly think the WSM cartridges operate on too high of pressure to see anywhere near 3100 with a 170 grain bullet, without using a 28" tube. This is from personal experience through load development with my rifle and I understand all rifles are different.

Without actual testing on my own yet , based on Berger load data they were able to get 2900 out of a 26" barrel in 270 win. I'm hoping for 2850 out of a 24" using the same powder. I think the WSM will be limited as well just because of the std specs they are built to.

I really wonder what a 270ai would do.

This or a 270/300 win, or 270/280ai maybe a interesting build. Or even a 270 stw. I think with this bullet coming out you will definitely see some 270 wildcats coming out.

It is a slick bullet that's for sure. I'm probably not going to try them just because I like loading to magazine length and I don't see that happening with a short action 270 wsm.

270 ai could prolly get it going a little over 3000fps. My 280ai with 25" barrel get the 168VLD going 3040 using H4831SC powder and a magnum primer...

I agree that the WSM is going to need to be a custom barrel with a longer throat to see the 170's potential. I am tuned into this thread because my next build is going to be a 270 WSM. I have it in my mind, to build a lightweight, medium range rifle ( 700 yard max on deer), shooting lighter 27cal bullets. I am thinking the 140 bergers. The Eld-x line of bullets from Hornady has me wanting to experiment with them too, but they do not have any 27 cal offerings yet.
