For you long-time Rokslide members, you may remember Les Welch of Wisconsin. He was one of the original prostaff members of Rokslide.

He was one of the guys I had in mind when David and I wrote the mission statement that's still listed on our homepage here: http://www.rokslide.com/

"Over-the-top hunting fanatic" is a perfect description of Les.

So it's good to have him back writing for us and I think you'll agree when you read his latest article, not only is he is a fanatic, he puts his gear to the test in the West.

Take it away Les...

Nice write up and useful information. I hunt 2 areas in my state, 1 an hour away, the other a 5 hour drive. I scout them both year round (weather permitting). Knowing, why animals utilize an area is priceless, their food sources and how they change throughout the year, what makes them move areas, and the areas they do move to... allows me and my hunting partners to consistently punch our tags, or have opportunities to punch it, but chose to hold out. Despite how much I know about these 2 areas, I continue to learn more each year scouting and hunting them. It's an investment in time, money, worn out gear, but it's well worth it, not only in the harvests made, but the relationships built, relationships between people, animals, the land...

Let me know if I need to clarify anything in the article Les.

That was a slew of gear you covered and I might have mixed a few things up in the edit.

Thanks for letting us know Mtnboy
