Complete ML newbi here with the first of many question to come. With the Hornady fpb should I use the 300 or 350 with BH 209. I've seen the threads where you have to pre fit them to your gun also. This is for elk in CO.

Thanks.

I think I would use the 350 just because it is a lead/copper bullet. I am not sure if you have to worry about shooting a big bull - but if that is on the table I would certainly go with the 350. The 300 is not all that bad either but bullet placement might be a little more critical.

Pre-fitting the FPB is a very good step!

Or just size them properly, stick them tip down the barrel and push down and out through the breach.

I have shot the 350gr and my wife shoots the 300gr. Elk and bear cant tell the difference. You can get a little more velocity and a little flatter trajectory out of the 300gr. My wife got end to end penetration on a 400lb bear with the 300gr FPB and a mild 80gr load of 777. She shot it facing her at 15yds and it dropped at the shot.
