So I am in the process of building my 270 wsm, and going to shoot either 130 0r 140gr bullets in it. I decided that I want a "fast" cartridge because it is going to be more of a mid-range, lighter weight rifle. When looking at Berger's offerings, I noticed that the Classic hunter 130gr, has a higher BC than the 130 VLD hunting. This is the only "classic hunter" bullet in their whole lineup that has a higher BC than their like weight VLD. I thought it had to be a typo, so I emailed them, and they claim it is not a typo.

Do you think I got a guy a Berger that simply looked at their website and took it as gospel, or do you really think that this is the only "Classic hunter" type bullet to have a better BC than it's VLD partner? Does anyone have any experience with the Classics?

The 270 130gr Classic hunter is a longer bullet than the 130gr VLD. It has a longer nose length and probably is why the BC is higher.
Why not shoot the 150gr VLD? My WSM shoots them amazing with H1000 and is lethal on game.

There are a few reasons I want to go with a lighter bullet. 1 is, I have a 300wsm shooting the 185's @ 2900 that is my elk rifle.
The other is this 270wsm will only be shot out to, at the very most, 700 yards, more than likely less than 500 yards and based on reloading data the 130 classic beats the 150 VLD in every category out to 700.

130 Classic- .490 BC anticipated MV of 3226 ( max load with H4350) Velocity @ 500 yards 2463 FPS/ 1751 LBS and 15.4" wind drift @ 10 MPH

150 VLD- .518 BC anticipated MV of 2978(max load with H4350) Velocity @ 500 yards 2134 FPS/ 1516 LBS and 16.2" wind drift @ 10 MPH.

Gotcha! What are the specs of your build? Nothing wrong with the 130gr hunters. They will be a hammer for sure.
