Rokslide. Been really digging the photos many of you guys post so am starting to get a bit more serious about the Camera options. Wife and I have been wanting to pick up a good quality camera for a while that we can start learning with. Been reviewing the Nikon DSLR 5500 figured Id ask and see if anyone else uses this camera. Found a great deal on one but before I drop the coin would love to get some real user feedback.

Thanks

Don't know too much about the Nikon 5500 but I imagine it would be a nice entry level option to get you started. If you can get a body fairly cheap, you can spend a little more on better lenses. Eventually though, you will probably want a body that has some weather resistance for use in the elements which I believe the 5500 lacks.

Admittedly, I'm a Pentax fanboy but I honestly believe you get the most bang for your buck with Pentax DSLRs and they pretty much all have weather resistance when used with a WR lens. I was getting some odd looks when I started out the packraft rondy with my camera clipped to my shoulder strap heading out into the Alaskan rain and rafting for three days but it held up fine. I think these deals are all sold out but you might keep an eye to see if the Denver store restocks. My buddy picked this up here in KC and it's an absolute steal.

For interchangeable camera you need to buy into the "system". camera bodies will come and go frequently, but good glass will continue to be good glass, and once you have a stock pile of it changing systems will be very expensive. You need to figure out what you want to do with your camera and make sure there are lenses that meet those requirements. Nikon you won't have an issue there, but try to buy the best glass you can afford that suites your situation.
