I received my Kiln 250 in the mail this morning and got a chance to handle it and try it on..Here are a few of my initial thoughts.
The fabric feels awesome. It feels great next to the skin, as I would expect from FL. There is definitely a difference between the kiln fabric and the chama fabric - the 5% spandex gives it the perfect amount of stretch.
The sizing is spot on for me. I wore a large Chama, and it fit well except I always thought it was a little short. I ordered a large Kiln and it fits great across the chest and shoulders (my sawtooth in a large is tight across the shoulders, but that could be their "shooters cut"). It also fits correctly around the stomach and waist, unlike the chama, which was loose. I also noticed right away that they must have increased the length, because it is several inches longer than the chama, which is great. Sleeve length is plenty long as well. I'm 5'9" and about 190 for reference.
This is my first base layer top with a hood, and I'm not sure how to feel about it. I know lots of people love the hoods, but I find that when you aren't wearing the hood, it tends to pull the front of the collar (and zipper) upward and backward, making me constantly feel like I have to pull it back down in the front - anyone else ever get that? I'll wear it around the house a little and see if it continues to bother me - if so, I might have to trade it in for a regular 1/4 zip.
I saw someone else mention that the fusion pattern looked dark on the Kiln, and I will agree, but I can't really say its any darker than the merino wool portion of the sawtooth (the only other merino piece I have in fusion). Its definitely darker than the front of the sawtooth and my woodbury jacket, but I'm guessing that's just the nature of printing on merino wool?
