I always carry my 4" fixed blade S30V Gerber knife, but most the time I use my Havalon for skinning, caping, and generally breaking animals down. A few years ago a bull elk had ridiculously thick skin on the back of his neck. I broke a couple Havalon blades without even cutting much of it. I had to use my knife and use it like a lever pulling up and towards me all the way to his bases, and it still wasn't easy. My CO moose was very similar to that. But beyond that, the Havalon works pretty darn well for breaking animals down, but I'll still always carry my knife as well.

I own way too many knives; only a couple I consider semi expensive. They basically all do the same thing. Anymore I think a replaceable blade with a couple extras and some type of 4-ish inch fixed blade that can be easily resharpened is the way to go. I don’t think I’ll ever buy another semi spendy knife for hunting
